The Oldbury Railway was opened to goods in November1884. This was quite late
(in railway construction terms) and the bridge was probably similar to that
crossed the Titford Branch, which still survives. The Stone Blocks may have
been from an alternative source. Oldbury Boat Services yard was also
adjacent to the private branch that served Chances Chemical Works, Known as
the Houghton Basin, or Chemical Arm. The boat yard site was at one time
occupied by the Tat Bank Ironworks, and another possibility is that the
blocks might have been part of a building.
