There can be no place in Britain that has wasted there canalside
opportunities. Where they might have claimed a world heritage site has been
lost perhaps forever. In a short segment of some ten years they have thrown
away a canal heritage.
In the rush for City status they have forgotten their past. The destruction
of the Albion Wharf in 2003 removed the core of the valuable heritage and
like a cancer of indifference the responsible people have allowed the rot to
continue.
The latest chapter is the fire at Noton's Mill. This building was destined
to be made into apartments, now it seems the fate is demolition.
The sad fact bearing in mind other previous fires is that Wolverhampton has
become the pyrotechnic capital of the Waterside. Is this a reputation worth
publication?
