Canalside features in danger

The Birmingham Evening Mail 07th September carried two canal related
features

The first concerns GKN- Hardy Spicer at Chester Road, Erdington who
applied for planning permission to convert part of their iconic mid
1950’s factory into canal side apartments. It seems Birmingham
Corporation has refused planning consent, at least for the present

The second refers to fire Montgomery Street (Warwick & Birmingham
Canal) that seriously damaged the former Royal Small Arms Factory
buildings. These buildings had long association with the motor
industry being at one time occupied by Lanchester and BSA
