Carbootsales : Message: recent spam

Someone has contacted me re the spam problem, here is a copy of my reply:

Unfortunatly as the people sending them do not sign up for the group I cannot ban them. What they actually do is send messages to assorted @yahoogroups.co.uk addresses until they find one that is active.

All we can do is ignore them and hope they move onto to email address.

Its so frustrating that there is nothing I can do and I think its disgusting that these people operate like this, I mean do they really think that a yahoo grop is going to believe theyve won the bloody Irish Lottery! but people obviously do respond or they wouldnt keep doing it.

Sorry I cant help any more, I have tried in the past to set the group so that I have to preview all messages before they go out to the group like you get with Freecycle groups but again there is the problem that they are not actually sending the messages from thr group page but direct to the carbootsales@... email address.

If you can think of anyway of stopping it then please let me know.

Needless to say really, DO NOT REPLY to the below email that you have just received. It is a con.

Unfortunatly as none of these spammers are actually signing up to the group I cannot stop them sending this rubbish (which is VERY frustrating as it is ruining the group)

They dont sign up but just sent random emails to @yahoogroups. co.uk addresses until they find one that actually exists then they will keep spamming it. If no one replies to them then hopefully it will stop.
