OPENING THIS WEEK

Taken

67%

want to see
Liam Neeson steps out of his typical, cerebral roles and goes full-blown action star in Taken. In this thriller, Neeson's Bryan Mills is a retired CIA agent whose daughter is snatched by a crime syndicate. Mills has to use his crime-fighty skills and dubious connections to get her back. Critical response has been split on the film overall, but most seem impressed with Neeson.
The Uninvited

37%

want to see
Korean horror is back, this time as The Uninvited, a remake of 2003's Changhwa, Hongryon. After her mother's tragic death, Anna (Emily Browning) returns home to find her father (David Strathairn) engaged to her mother's former nurse (Elizabeth Banks). The mother's ghost visits the daughter to warn her of the nurse's devious intentions, and tension builds as Anna attempts to convince her father that evil is afoot.
New In Town

41%

want to see
It's almost Valentine's Day, so Hollywood is starting to tee up some comedy of a romantic nature. New in Town tells the story of Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger), a business executive who transfers from Miami to snowy, small town Minnesota. The shift is tough and further complicated by her romantic interest (Harry Connick, Jr.). So far, critics are not even slightly amused by this flick, but what do they know of love?

TOP BOX OFFICE

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

69%

liked it
Two weeks after Kevin James' mall cop blustered into theaters, the Blartman remains atop the box office. Last week, Paul Blart: Mall Cop brought in $21.6M, bringing its total gross to $64.9M, already a respectable sum for any sitcom actor in his first leading role.
Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans

78%

liked it
Lycan and Vampire alike are probably annoyed at having been just barely edged out by Paul Blart. The Underworld prequel racked up $20.8M, just $800k behind this weeks #1. The flick's critical reception has been spotty, but creatures of the night have been hot lately, so we're not surprised at a decent finish.
Gran Torino

92%

liked it
Despite a massive snub by the Academy, Clint "Get Off My Lawn, You Whippersnappers" Eastwood's Gran Torino sticks around for yet another week in the top 3. Despite its slow start with a narrow release, the film earned $16.2M this week, bringing its total to $97.8M. That chunk of coin should somewhat offset disappointment on February 22nd.

FEATURED PREVIEW

Opening Feb 6, 2009
Directed By Harald Zwart
Steve Martin is back as Inspector Clouseau in the sequel to 2006's adaptation of The Pink Panther. In PP2, Martin's Inspector Clouseau is still hapless, bumbling, and unintentionally amusing. And while the focus is on the Pink Panther (the diamond, not the cat), this time Clouseau matches wits with Chief Inspect Dreyfus, played by comic legend John Cleese. Even you don't care for the premise, seeing Martin and Cleese squaring off in absurd characters should be worth the price of admission. Tack on Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai as the female lead, and this flick has the potential to be a worthy diversion.

Blistering opening half showcases Boyle's unmatched ability to meld striking visual images and kinetic music to dazzling effect.

AgentLexi2132 on Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans

The third outing for Underworld takes a number of new paths. One in the guise of its prominent new Director Patrick Tatopoulos, and another in the shape of it's prequel story.
Galeocerdo

Galeocerdo on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

A melancholy meditation on life and death, growth and decay, love and loss, mirrored in a similarly juxtaposing fable of a man who ages against time.
SkullFairyy

SkullFairyy on Bride Wars

Ehh. It was just a typical chick flick with 2 top actresses playing lead. I liked Kate Hudson in it. The plot then got predictable...
