There's an excellent new Discovering Reason on complex delays. Check
the examples out. They are really quite good.

How about you don't post crap advertisements on this group, brassbeats.
Looks like the same old crap that has been floating around the net
since people started selling beats online. Lets make a fake product
package, with a famous producer/rapper's face on the front. Oh yeah,
lets put a popular beat making software's icon on it as well... You

Thanks for the record suggestions, guys. I've listened to some
snippets of Untrue and I'm already in love. Keep the suggestions
coming!

Lately I've been listening to a bunch of old Micronaut stuff and some
of the other artists on Positron Records. I really like the Bounte
album.

Same here. Awesome album that. One of the best things I've heard for
..... years. I bought Burial's first album soon after listening to
Untrue. That's just as good if not better. Amazing talent IMO.

Love it. Thor is awesome, the RPG-8 is cool, The ReGroove mixer is
fantastic & the new sequencer is much better.

Not used that feature yet to be honest.

I nearly alway grouped everything together anyway so clips work for
me. Still learning the sequencer though. It's still simple but I still
need to brush up on a few points.

And your efforts are appreciated :)

I'm quite liking Reason 4 actually. I bought it when it came out but
was in the middle of projects so I didn't want to upgrade straight
away in case something stopped working.

Yes, it's a slightly different workflow, but I think once I get used
to it it'll be easier to do things than in R3. I also love how so much
can be done with keyboard shortcuts now too.

Lately I've been mostly listening to Untrue by Burial (which I'm told
was made almost completely in Sound Forge - way to go!).

UPDATE: Okay, I've made a Combinator skin for the project (as you can
see from the updated picture on the front page).

I've also contacted Wouter Schakel of Teknolab, creator of some really
nifty Combinator patches, including the excellent 'Spektrum' analyser,
asking if he would be willing to contribute his patches for the
project. He replied with the following;

"Hi,

I'd be happy and honoured to have some of my patches in the refill.
Currently I'm not really active with Reason but most patches should
still be useable even with Reason 4. You can just take the patches to
put in the refill. I would also like to see the final refill off course.

Wouter"

Top bloke & excellent news. We have our first patches ;-) I've also
posted of Peff's forum with details of the project. I might contact
Kurt directly to see if he'd be happy to have some of his patches used
in the project.

I've recently been reading through Computer Music magazines (Future
publishing) excellent 'Reason 4 the Unoffical guide' special eidtion.
In it I was reading about how useful it is to have Combinator patches
containing useful device set-ups & routings that you can easily recall
at any time. Of course most people already know about this stuff but
it occured to me that I don't actually do this! If I want a vocoder
patch I usually start from scratch creating & hooking up the devices.
I'm quite happy doing this so it's not a chore. But it would obviously
be quicker & easier to have a particular set-up stored as a Combinator
patch.

From this I thought up the idea of having a 'Tools' Refill that would
contain useful device set-ups all connected & ready to go. It could
save time for seasoned users but it would also be excellent for
beginners who want examples of this kind of thing. It would also
contain utility patches. I've come across several of these since the
advent of Reason 3.0 - Someone came up with a nifty spectrum analyser
patch using BV512's. I've also seen things like mono check Combinators
& other useful tools.

I think it would be a great idea to have a Refill containing all of
these kinds of patches. The more the merrier, if they fit the bill,
but I think quality over quantity should be the focus in order to keep
the Refill as useful & proffesional looking as possible. So I'd be
looking for contributions of any patches you think might fit the bill.
Don't worry about skins - if you don't come up with your own skin then
maybe somebody else to contribute in this way.

I've created a folder in the files area called 'REASON TOOLS PROJECTS'
where any patches that you think could be relevent can be posted.
I'll manage the project by consolidating the patches. If a patch get's
chosen to be used, but doesn't have a skin, I'll post looking for
'skinners' to create one. Finally I'd like to keep some sort of
update/progress report & make this available periodically so people
can see how it's coming along. I'll post this in the form of a PDF or
image file.

All contributors will of course be credited in the project & if
patches are sourced from people not directly involved then wherever
possible they will be credited to. Infact, since there are already
stacks of freely available patches out there, that will be relevent to
this project, it would be useful to upload these to the REASON TOOLS
PROJECT folder as well.

Please post any thoughts you have on this. Maybe you know of a similar
Refill that's already out there? If that's the case then we'll make
ours better ;-)

Here's a short list of the kind of patches I'd like to include in the
Refill;

Common routing set-ups (e.g. Vocoder patches, Side-chaining)
Utilities (e.g. Spectrum analysers, mono check)
FX chains (e.g multi-tap delays, complex processing chains)
Special processing (specific effects e.g. vinyl crackle, analogue warmth)
Mastering & finalising (final stage processing patches)

Yes sorry about that. I must admit I've been neglecting the group
somewhat of late. For the record I'm going to say that the advent of
Reason 4 & Thor have been eating into my free time. I might also say
that I don't have much free time .... but that would be a little wide
of the mark as well. I have more time than I'm spending on this group
so apologees for the negligance.

However, I've just gone throug the recent messages purging all SPAM
from the list that I can find. I'll do this more regularly now. I also
have a couple of projects in mind that I'm desperate to get under way.
More about these in my very next post ..........

Not strictly Combinator related .... well not unless you stick one (or

Mr. Devin M

1)If you can't afford to pay, you can't afford to play. Go get a job
and quit stealing.

2)Of course P puff Diddy Dad bought his software (it was probably
with drug money BUT). You can't expect to MAKE money with stolen
software. If you get audited by the IRS you'll know what's up. And
there's something to be said about karma... You just make better
music knowing that you paid for it.

3)What if YOU made music, and people stole it. Either out of the
store or downloaded it for free. Some 12 year old kid said, "ah, I
can't afford to spend the dough this music "maker" wants me to. I
think I'll just download it for free. (or put it under my coat and
walk out the store)."

Hacking into peoples personal computers is not good. I
definitely don't agree with that. However, this is
corporate. Let me ask you do you have anything pirated
on your system word, excel....etc. What about people

Give you a break?

Sorry for the flame, but really, you are acting in a way is unethical.
Devon, it is not your place to distribute code you don't own.

> Who cares about the law. Down with rules.

So if I hacked into your computer and copied private files/projects and
distributed them all over the web, that would be OK with you? Think about
what you're saying dude.

It's Propellerhead's code. It's their product. It is their copyrighted
works.

The only material you have the right to distribute is material for which you
personally own the copyright.

Propellerhead make the rules on how the beta should be distributed and who
it is distributed to. What is hard to understand about that? What makes you
think you're entitled to the right to distribute it?

I reckon it's a matter of time before you are contacted by the Props and
asked to remove the download.

Cheers,

jasefos
