This is the letter i showed to Tony McWalter last Friday. (See files
upload; Council Resolution)
Mike Penning would like to add signatures to the existing environment
forum members and i'm sure so would Richard Grayson for the Liberal
Democrats. Or perhaps to simply add a headed letter and a few words.
My personal feeling is that this letter should be posted immediately
to Andrew Williams as the sooner the council are formally alerted to
our bid for a fairtrade town the better, however if there is time to
add extra signatures (from committe meetings) then download the whole
thing, and snail mail back the hard signatures to my address or i'll
come by and pick them up. Would seven days be a reasonable deadline
for this? or can we afford to wait until the meeting of 1st September?
I'm just wondering if we'll be giving enough time for the council to
respond bearing in mind we'd like them to attend the Fairtrade Town
Conference to find out more.
We already have 24 signatures from the Environment Forum so this would
probably be ok to start off with. Do we need the extra signatures or
is it enough that the list of supporting organisations at the footer
of the letter (which can be verified)is proof enough?
As long as all the councillors are aware of and enough of them support
it's contents when the motion is put before the cabinet at their next
meeting does it really matter?
Also with regards to the Fairtrade Supper Quiz Tony McWalter suggested
getting together a labour party team. Well that sounds great, can we
count on teams representing the liberal democrats and conservatives to
take part in this social occasion?
In any case you should all see a copy of this letter before it goes
out formally so you know what's in the pipeline. I'll take any
comments.
