Hi Alistair.
The first jobs are to clear the unit of the stores it brought with it and give it an internal clean. This should mostly be done by the end of this coming weekend. These stores while at Meldon were all put on 205028's DT carriage, so there's a carriage load of stuff to rehouse!
If we can get that done well, then the next step is to 'touch up' the green undercoat, so it doesn't look too tired before the first [diesel] gala.
Topcoating should start after the diesel gala, plain blue sides in time for the second [SR] one, weather permitting. [1198 when running about as 7175 was one of a very few CEPs to have blue sides and all yellow fronts]
After that gala, work will start on putting the grey on, this will be weather dependant; it would be good to have it done by Christmas, but that might not be possible.
Work parties arriving for painting and finding the weather unsuitable will be reassigned to either shampoo the upholstery or help with the disabled door to go in the TBC between the goods area and standard class compartment; then there are the removable tables to be worked on.
On the electro-mechanical side there are plans to extend the ETH to both ends and possibly in the long term fit a blue star to westcode converter, but that is some years away.
There is also the idea of fitting batteries to the TBC underframe and seeing if 1198 can run as a BEMU, and for how long...
Hope this helps, and it is good that we are now at a line that takes an interest in what we are doing.
Thanks and Regards
Albert

just following on from Alberts note we're all really pleased to have you at
the PBR and can't wait to get using 1198 on a regular basis.
At the moment as Albert has probably mentioned before I've got 1198 pencilled
in for the diesel gala on the 26/27 July and a new proposed Southern Region
event on the 27/28 September.
Hopefully this will allow you to get things ready and not conflict with your
plans.
Can't wait to see 1198 in blue and grey, will look great with 37023 which will
be going into large logo and then straight blue.
Oh and if anybody has any ideas for events etc please don't hesitate to shout
regards
Alistair

Hi All.
EMUPS members will have clocked up every weekend in May at the line, and
already we are looking to halfway through June.
We are looking for new members to help with the work to be done, and if you
would like to join up, then there is an enrolment form on the files section of
this group.
There are a few tasks requiring attention, most recently is the issue of leaks
from a couple of doors [This is wind related - at Meldon the wind blew
horizontally against the DMSB front, at Furnace Sidings it blows horizontally
against one side.]
We also have work on the stores huts to be done, and the clearing of the unit
of stores so it is available for use at a moment's notice if required.
It's all go, and shows the difference between when a line wants to use a unit
like P&BR does and one does not as happened at Dartmoor.
We look forward to seeing lots of new members both to EMUPS and to the line!
Kind Regards,
Albert Mutton
