It is a preserved train.
However we like to include everyone in the enjoyment of it, and there was a precedent on the mainline in the form of 1699, (we recovered quite a few parts from it at Immingham) so its not as if it isn't 'authentic'.
Besides, one day, we would like to see 1198 back on the mainline, and to comply with DDA etc rules there has to be wheelchair access.

Surely wheelchairs (and their riders) travel in the guards van - unless the human manages with help if needed to get to a seat.
Albeit never in a wheelchair, I used to like the guards van if the rest of the train was busy.
