Regarding the new pundit rules.
There were a number of people sitting around the table at HUS and a number of
conversations, however I think everyone agreed that the present rule for a
pundit to fly intermediate with a 10% penalty just did not work. In a number of
clubs there is a preponderance of pundits who fly X-country every week and who
are literally waiting to get selected. Furthermore the distinction between a
seasoned pundit – one who flies a 500K before breakfast type - and an
intermediate who may have just completed his first 300K, is significant.
Therefore we needed a rule to distinguish the hardened pundit and good
intermediate.
It was therefore agreed that a pundit is someone who has not been in the top
half of a Nationals for the previous 10 years or completed a UK 750K. In fact I
have some pundits that are having to look back to 9 years ago and whether they
made the overall 50% mark or not!
It would be helpful if we could agree something early – as I need to select a
team for Saltby and travel to Spain for 2 weeks on the 14th May.
