1stly I raised the issue for debating purposes. I personally have no issue
with 5 weekends (though I can't make Dunstable as I'm in Spain) :-(
Last year, despite of (or because of) the generally dire weather we had, I'm
aware that some clubs struggled to field full teams. At the HB weekend, the
1st one so enthusiasm was high after so long away, Saltby managed 14-15
people and 6-7 gliders arrive in total throughout the weekend.
Unfortunately, by the time we launched on the last day only 3 pilots and 1
crew (sort of, Ania's great but doesn't tow or rig/derig) were left. The 3
of us landed out! Thanks to an impromptu last minute save by a mate who
trundled along on his motorbike to say hi, plus the help of the 4 Counties
mob and an aerotow we got back. I know that other clubs had fewer people
around.
I also wasn't necessarily suggesting that it would be Cranwell simply
because they're last. Indeed, the timing of their weekend is probably more
likely than any other at this stage to provide some decent weather.
Dunstable's inclusion was last minute and given what Mel told us it seems
she had to use thumb screws to get the weekend.
Indeed, her response to this question indicates there may still be merit in
raising the issue.
I'd really like to fly at Dunstable because I like the club, I'd like to fly
at Cranwell as it's local (I may also like it but I haven't been there yet).
Is this issue worth a vote? Shall we just set 5 dates in stone and debate
the issue again for next year?
Paul
