I have read, with interest, the recent exchange of emails regarding the above
and must agree that there is nothing ill- mannered with Edmund referring to John
Dodwell as our 'Archivist', isn't that what he does, or am I missing something?
It is also true that Edmund is always inviting members to supply information,
memories or such to enable them to be available for the benefit of us all.
However, it would appear, as in Edmund's case for instance, that items have beer
'loaned' to Mr Dodwell in the past, which have not been returned to their
rightful owner despite requests for said items to be returned.
I would like to thank Edmund on behalf of the Egroup for all that he does and
find Dick Smith's attitude extremely ungracious given the time, energy and
effort Edmund gives to the Egroup. May I suggest Mr Smith, that if you are able
to contact Mr Dodwell, perhaps you could ask him, on behalf of all Egroup
members, to share information with the group.
Kind regards
Kay Swallow (nee Denny) 1963-1938

What exactly is 'rude' about being called an archivist ? It is an important
profession in the dissemination of information. As a librarian myself, I know
the value of an archives department.
Edmund Hodges has done a great job in collecting information about the Elliott,
even though he is not an archivist as such.
I, and many other people are very grateful to him.
I am, however, thankful that I did not part with any of my treasured Elliott
memoribilia to John Dodwell.

Have you asked John?
Did he refuse?
I think it is extremely ill-mannered to call him ‘archivist’.

Well Dick,
You should be aware that you may not be fully informed on requests, verbal
or written, over a number of years, quite apart from the obvious fact that
ALL members of the Egroup are frequently invited, asked and requested
in these Messages to supply any information they have which would be of
interest to other members and to offer corrections for any inaccuracies they
see on the website.
It is generally felt that Archive material should be available to all, not
squirrelled away for some personal satisfaction and the elliottonian website
has proved an ideal depository, readily accessed by former Pupils and Staff
across the world.
Your own contributions have been appreciated.
Edmund

The ŒArchivist¹ is called John Dodwell.
He has not, as far as I am aware, been asked to provide anything for the
website, that was not what he was appointed to do. I¹m sure that if you
asked him he would oblige.

Well, I was given to understand that records from the early days in Putney
had been dumped and we could not refer to them.
I now hear that our 'Archivist' has been busy studying the records he has
from the Holmes and Davies years, before he joined the Elliott School
himself.
Perhaps we can look forward to some contribution to the website from the
'Archivist' eventually.
