PHF Clarke   Message List

Staff and students who were at Elliott in the early '70s will be saddened to
learn that Peter Clarke died last Friday. He was 65 and had been ill for
some time, particularly so for the last few months.

Apart from teaching English, producing plays and driving an old 2CV, Peter was
of course the founder, editor and driving force behind Comprehensive News,
the school newspaper that we published. I was privileged to be part of the
initial production team in those halcyon days.

I last saw him two weeks before he died and I spoke to him on the phone only
last week when he seemed his usual self, planning for the future even though
he knew the end couldn't be that far off.

The most humane, wise and gentle person, Peter was one of my very closest
friends whom I will miss badly. I am sure I am not alone on this list.

Best wishes

John

It was definitely early 70's because I recall one or two of my schoolmates going in to Fleet Street to protest outside the Daily Mail HQ. Cheers Steven On Tue,...
