I'm not sure but seem to think through the folks I have spoken to that Jack
died quite a few years ago. I once rang the school some two or three summers
ago and spoke to a lady at length about the school and I'm sure she said
that George was very ill at the time and the future didn't look too bright,
so it's nice to hear of a least one of the first teachers to the Elliott is
still alive.
They say you learn something new every day don't they I didn't realise the
old Elliott was built in 1904 wonder in that case when Riversdale was built?
Still looks a very stylish building.
Take care Geoff

You're quite right Geoff, the school you attended opened in 1956 but the
original Elliott School, called, I think, Elliott Central School opened in
1904. It was moved from the original site, now Southfields Community
College, to the new building in 1956.
I knew Jack Kyte and worked with him for a few years but he hasn't been in
contact for many years since his retirement. I worked with Harry Mason for
several years and was fortunate enough to organise his retirement do. I
was
in contact with him a year ago when he was fit and well and house sitting
his, I think, daughter's house on the Isle of Wight.
We are concerned about planning a 50th anniversary because we are due to
become a building site in September 2004 when major refurbishments are set
to begin. The programme is likely to last 3 years if, indeed, it goes
ahead.
I knew George Hook as well but have had no contact for some years.
I'll certainly keep in touch.

Alam
