Description

The Equality Trust Interest Group is for people interested in discussing issues relating to social and economic equality/inequality and who wish to support the work of The Equality Trust.

The Trust is an educational and campaigning organisation which formally launched in early March 2009, in conjunction with the new book from Prof Richard Wilkinson & Dr Kate Pickett published by Penguin (The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better). The Trust’s website can be found at www.equalitytrust.org.uk. The Spirit Level has now come out in paperback (Feb 2010) and has the slightly revised strap-line: Why Equality is Better for Everyone.

The Trust aims to increase awareness of the mounting empirical evidence from the developed countries and the fifty US States which demonstrates the social, health and environmental benefits accruing to more equal societies. By campaigning on this evidence, the Trust aims to change public opinion and create the necessary political will to reduce inequality.

If you wish to join this email information/discussion group,
1 please say why you are interested in joining, and a few words about yourself,
2 please say roughly where you live, or work.
3 please let the moderators know your full name as we do not enrol people anonymously.

(If you contribute an email to the discussion yourself, although surnames are not always essential, it is often helpful to other list members to have a prompt as to where you are writing from - eg James S, Boston [Lincs or Mass - as appropriate])
