Subject: CFP - Proposed Ethnoornithology Symposium at the 30th SoE Congress, March 2006
robert_gosford
Send Email Send Email

Dear all,

Just a quick note to advise that I have now heard back from the
organisers of the 30th SoE Congress to be held at the University of
California at Berkeley (March 28-31) following my enquiry about the
possibility of holding a symposium dedicated to Ethnoornithology. This
is great news and I hope that we can rustle up enough interest (and
papers!) ... for more information see the Congress website at:
http://ethnobiology.org/

As of this writing (9th January 2007) we have two presenters - myself,
Robert Gosford and Ms. Mercy Njeri of Kenya. I propose that we be modest
and look for another 5 or 6 15-20 minute presenters and run in one room
on an afternoon. If we get more than that I'll either have to seek a
larger timeslot or be ruthless ...

A draft program for the symposium might look like the following -

Introduction/overview: Eugene Hunn?/Eugene Anderson/other?

Presentation 1: Robert Gosford - The Stormbird, an
Aboriginal cult in northern Australia

Presentation 2: Mercy Njeri - Masaai bird use and
conservation (TBC)

Presentation 3:

etc through to

Presentation 6 or more?

Conclusion, panel discussion?

I note that there is a proposal for a book on ethnoornithology essays
following the conduct of a similar symposium at the International
Ornithological Congress at Hamburg in August 2006. It may be that some
of the contributors to the proposed symposium may be interested in
contributing to that project or vice versa - that participants from
Hamburg may be interested in coming to Berkeley.

Let me know your thoughts asap - Qantas has some specials for flights
out of Australia to the east coast of the USA and San Francisco is a
relatively easy city to access generally (as opposed to Blenheim, Chaing
Rai etc ...).

I'm looking forward to your early responses, obviously the SoE
organisers are keen to settle the program so sooner rather than later is
better!

I'll post this to the ERSG website at:
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/ethnoornithology/ and invite you to
pass this on elsewhere if you think it appropriate.

Hello,

For those of you who are interested, I thought I would give a quick
update about my Earth Survey project. I have been running the
project for the last several months, sending out surveys primarily
via email (although a few have been send via postal mail as well) to
a variety of government officials, religious leaders, environmental
organizations, wildlife experts, and others. To date, I have gotten
back 174 responses, which are posted online at
http://earthsurvey.blogspot.com. Lots of interesting answers, with a
lot of people seeming to be paying increased attention to global
warming and climate change. There is no deadline for the project, so
if any of you would like to participate, send me a note and I will
send a copy of the survey to you. Eventually I would like to do
something else with the results such as put them in book form or
something similar, but for now I am just posting them at the blog I
created for the project. I recently sent out a couple of press
releases about the project, which I am hoping will increase the
amount of exposure and participation that I get for it. I hope that
you will find this as interesting as I have, and welcome any
comments, questions, or feedback that you might have!

Regards,
Jeremy

Subject: ERSG update - January 2007. Events, conferences and announcements

Send Email Send Email

Dear ERSG members,

A Happy New Year to all members of the ERSG webgroup, your friends,
families, acquaintances and co-workers and the birds in your area!

Its been an eventful and busy first year of operation for the ERSG. As
you can see from the activity schedule on the ERSG home page we've
been an active group during the year. We've posted over 180 messages,
made over 50 links and uploaded almost 30 files. Not a bad effort for
a disparate group spread across the globe.

It is this global spread and our diversity that gives us our strength
as a group - our members comes from all continents of the world (apart
from Antarctica - if that is a continent?) and have a range of
interests, skills and cultural, professional and social backgrounds.

I'd encourage all members to have a fresh look at your member profile
and update it if appropriate. The ERSG is a community of sharing and
we believe it is important that each member has a proper profile. This
helps to create an atmosphere of trust and your fellow members will be
more willing to help you or to find out about common interests.

Some highlights of member activity for 2006 include the range of
discussions about various aspects of bird knowledge (see the posts re
Owls, Cuckoos, woodpeckers, working with informants, field techniques
etc), attendance and presentation at a number of conferences (great
opportunities to spread the ethnoorn word, meet up with old colleagues
and new friends and practitioners) and a way of linking members from
disparate parts of the world that are working on similar areas of
interest.

A few words about conferences, symposia and meetings - in the last
year I've presented at a number of international conferences and
congresses not directly related to ornithology - I feel that it is
important to recognise that ethnoornithology is a multi-disciplinary
area - that our work is informed and enriched by anthropology,
linguistics, broader ethnobiology, the law and general biology and
ornithology - among others. It is important that we reach out to our
colleagues in those disciplines - in my own experience I've found it
tremendously exciting to find common interests (and data and
information) among our colleagues in those areas of work. If you have
attended and/or presented at an interesting conference or meeting
please post a copy of your presentation, conference abstracts etc to
the ERSG site for the information of members.

2007 is shaping up as a busy year already. Some items that might be of
interest to members include:

- Preparation of a book of papers presented by members and others
during the Ethnoornithology Round-table held at the 24th International
Ornithological Congress (24th IOC) at Hamburg, Germany in August 2006.
Deadline for submission is 31st march 2007. Further details, styles
guide and contacts are in the "Files" section of the ERSG website;

- Proposal for a dedicated Ethnoornithology symposium at the 30th
Society of Ethnobiology congress to be held at the University of
California at Berkeley, 28-31 March 2007. I have posted a CFP for this
symposium separately but please contact me for further details.
Closing date for submissions is 25 January 2007. Further information
(including registration etc) is available at the SoE website at:
http://ethnobiology.org/;

- the upcoming Brazilian Ornithological Congress (CBO XV: Congresso
Brasileiro de Ornitologia, 30 June – 6 July 2007
http://www.ararajuba.org.br/cbo2007/index.html) at Porto
Alegre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil in July 2007;

- Leonardo Cabrera-Garcia of McGill University has written concerning
a symposium proposal for the Neotropical Ornithological Congress to be
held in Venezuela in 2007 - see the Congress homepage at:
http://www.nocvenezuela.org/index.cfm. Please reply to Leonardo
directly at: lcabre@... or via
this website. Leonardo notes "I am preparing a proposal of symposium
for the congress of Neotropical Ornithology to be held in Venezuela
next 2007 on bird conservation and traditional ecological knowledge
people [tribal, aboriginal, indigenous] may have on birds and their
habitats."

- The 2007 Australasian Ornithological Conference, to be held in
Perth, Western Australia, in December 2007. You may recall that the
last AOC on Blenheim, New Zealand was the catalyst for the ERSG and we
are looking to repeat and build on that experience and the work that
has been since that time. We have proposed an Ethnoornithology
Symposium and as of this date have yet to hear back from the
Conference organisers. Coming to Perth in December would be a welcome
break from a northern winter!. For further information, registration
etc see the conference webpage
at:http://birdswa.iinet.net.au/aoc2007/index.htm.

- I'm working on a proposal to begin an Ethnoornithology Special
Interest Group (SIG)as part of Birds Australia. This could provide
important institutional support for the development of
ethnoornithology in Australia and a focus point for more mainstream
ornithologists. For more information about BA and other SIGs please go
to: http://www.birdsaustralia.com.au/.

Thats all for now - please send a note if you are aware of upcoming
conferences, meetings etc please post a note to the ERSG website.
Please also remember to spread the word, send in your files, photos,
links and ideas and most importantly, stay safe and have fun.

Best for the season and the New Year,

Dear all,

Below is a link to an invitation from the Society for the Protection
of Nature in Lebabnon to the launch of an exciting (and most likely
well overdue!) new development - a bird field guide in Arabic. The
launch will be in Beirut in 16 January so you will need to be quick!

What is also interesting is the range and status of international
groups (the RSBP, Birdlife International etc) that have been involved
in its produxction.

To see the invitation go to: http://www.spnlb.org/events.php?eid=8&p=.

Subject: The HIMA project - linking bird conservation, community and traditional practice
robert_gosford
Send Email Send Email

Dear all,

Further to my previous post, I've had a further look at the SPNL
(Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon) site
(http://www.spnlb.org/index.php) and located information on a most
interesting IBA project - The HIMA project.

There is a pamphlet on the HIMA project at:
http://www.spnlb.org/img/news/Hima%5B1%5D.pdf.

The pamphlet explains that:

"The overall goal of the Hima revival is to mesh traditional practices
with recent conservation science as a way to reach sustainable
development.
Since 2004, SPNL has re-established two Himas, in two key biodiversity
areas; namely Ebel es-Saqi in South Lebanon and Kfar Zabad wetland in
the Bekaa region."

"The Hima approach may be cost-effective and help to engage support
from sources not used or available to Nature Reserves. Hima status may
also provide greater opportunities for sustainable human use of
natural resources, and therefore, make a greater contribution to
poverty alleviation for people whose use of natural resources
forms a critical component of their livelihood strategies."

"Himas are so important?

- The value of traditional practices and local knowledge is
increasingly recognized by the conservation community worldwide. These
practices represent both the values of local people and the wisdom
they have accumulated through centuries of adaptation to
their environment.
- They help alleviate poverty, empower local communities and support
democracy
- They have great pragmatic value for the conservation and equitable
sustainable use of natural resources.
- They are expressions of faith, morality and law, the roots of
environmental ethic.
- They help conserve key Biodiversity Areas (KBA), IBAs, and other
landscapes outside the Nature Reserve Category (especially on
municipal, tribal, religious and private lands).
- They provide numerous ecosystem goods and services, often
contributing significantly to human livelihoods (e.g. fishermen,
farmers, shepherds and collectors of non-timber forest products).
- They recognize the importance of local community organizations (Site
Support Groups-SSGs) for in situ biodiversity conservation."

To my mind, HIMAs represent the marriage of traditional (in this case
pan-Arabic) conservation and land management practices and modern
conservation needs that have a sound basis in science and modern
conservation management and also in traditional and cultural practices
suited to the specific area. An excellent example of applied ethnobiology!

I'm keen to find out more about this and similar projects and welcome
member's responses, ideas and suggestions.

Cheers,

Dear members,

A note about the Grants provided by OSME - for more information go to
the OSME site at: http://www.osme.org/ and follow the links to
"Conservation Grants"

Ethnoornithological research would appear to fit well within the grant
guidelines. From the site:

"OSME welcomes applications for grants of up to UK£500 from its
Conservation and Research Fund, to support research projects in the
region. Projects should be directed to one or more of the following
subject areas:-
i) investigating the status of threatened or near-threatened species
ii) attempting to further knowledge of existing Important Bird Areas
(e.g. undertaking breeding censuses, visiting out-of-season to conduct
systematic counts)
iii) investigating potential new Important Bird Areas or little-known
areas
iv) conducting ecological studies of little-known species
v) educational projects
Priority will be given to projects involving nationals from the region
and applicants are required to write up the results of their project
for possible publication in Sandgrouse."

Greetings,

Having just joined this group, I'm taking this chance to introduce myself.

I am an environmental educator and a natural history tourist guide. Having grown up in two Aboriginal (Australia) communities and having taught in a number of similar  communities around Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait, I have an interest in traditional knowledge. I gained little traditional knowledge of birds as they did not make up a significant part of my diet or hunting activity. Because of this I have little to contribute but a critical eye. I hope to gain knowledge and , by participation, raise the status of ethnoornithology.

Dear All,

The (very) basic outline for an article about ethnoornithology has
been posted on the online collaborative encylopedia, the Wikipedia,
at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnoornithology. It won't come up in
google yet but can be found by searching in the Wikipedia or by
following the link that I've just given. The article itself includes
a link to the ERSG and may help to bring us more visitors.

Anyone can contribute to the further development of this article (not
to mention the many others that are in dire need of improvement) and
I would encourage members to do so. Alternatively, suggestions can be
posted as messages to the ESRG or e-mailed directly to me (in which
case I'll endeavour to edit the article appropriately). A good image
or two to illustrate some aspect(s) of ethnoornithology would also
help improve the article.

Meanwhile, thanks to Bob (Robert) for all the good work in running
our group - almost a year old now!

Happy New Year & best wishes to all,

EXHIBITION OF WATERCOLOURS IN OXFORD (UK) AIMS TO SUPPORT CONSERVATION
PROJECTS IN COLOMBIA

Bogotá, 15 November, 2006. Robin Schiele, Guatemalan artist born in
Nicaragua, will be exhibiting 35 watercolours in an exhibition
titled "Moments in the lives of neotropical birds" at the Oxford
University
Museum of Natural History from 1 February to 31 March 2007. A third of
total
sales will be donated to conservation work by the Bogota Ornithological
Association (ABO) in Colombia.

The exhibition is being organised by the ABO, with whom the artist has
collaborated on previous occasions. The exhibition focuses on threatened
and endemic species from the Colombian Andes and is being supported by the
Biological Research Institute "Alexander von Humboldt".

The Guatemalan artist, currently resident in Colombia and educated in
Oxford, England has dedicated most of his life to the study and
portraiture
of endangered species of fauna in Central and South American tropical
forests. He has been involved with several conservation
organisation in the preservation of natural resources in Guatemala.

The artist uses a mixed dry-wet brush technique, giving his portraits
a very
special sharpness that is difficult to achieve with watercolours. He
makes
a point of painting his subjects life-size, focusing on behavioural
aspects
as well as appropriate settings for each species portrayed. His work is
clearly the result of thousands of hours of painstaking study and
examination of the animals he paints, complemented by his experience of
watching wildlife in the field. Robin Schiele's publications include the
field guide to the birds of the Bogota area, the red data book on
Colombian
birds as well as a series of large format reproductions of Colombian
toucans.

The Bogota Ornithological Association is a not-for-profit organisation
working for bird conservation in and around the Bogota area, Colombia. The
ABO was founded in 1989 by 17 ornithologists and birdwatchers and was
registered as an NGO in 1994. The organisation's main objectives are to
carry out research, education and awareness raising activities aimed at
conserving birds and their habitats. Currently, the association is working
on a project related to urban biological corridors in association with the
Botanical Gardens in Bogota. The ABO also runs workshops for schools
as well
as monthly birdwatching outings and talks.

Results of the project "Conservation and Sustainable Use of
Biodiversity in
the Colombian Andes", headed by the Instituto Alexander von Humboldt
will be
on show at the exhibition. The project's long-term objectives are to
increase conservation, knowledge and sustainable
use of globally important biodiversity in the Colombian Andes. The
Instituto
Humboldt, a public-private research institute affiliated to the
Ministry of
the Environment, is responsible for scientific and applied research of
natural resources in continental Colombia.

EXPOSICIÓN DE ACUARELAS EN EL REINO UNIDO PRETENDE CAPTAR FONDOS PARA LA
CONSERVACIÓN EN
COLOMBIA

Hello,

Robert Gosford is suggesting the following article from http://www.arabnews.com:

Falcons May Soon Become an Endangered Bird
P.K. Abdul Ghafour, Arab News

JEDDAH, 10 January 2007 - The falcon remains an integral part of the Arab lifestyle and tradition since falconry has long been an important sporting activity. But for Dr. Zubair Medammal, the first Asian scientist to win a doctoral degree in falcon studies, this royal bird is more than a fascination.

Zubair won his doctoral degree from the University of Calicut after conducting six years of research on the bird. He is the first non-Arab to get a membership of the Emirates Falconers Club and the first to prepare a sonogram collecting 15 different sounds of falcons.

He has also received many laurels including the Young Scientists' Award from the chief minister of Kerala. Last year, he presented a paper at an international scientific conference on birds. He has received an invitation to present another paper at Bird Census 2007 to be held in Italy in April this year.

Qatar University has translated his thesis into Arabic in order to use it as a reference for degree students. He intends to publish the book in both English and Arabic and is looking for a publisher. He is a member of the Worldwide Fund for Nature and Natural Resources and Bombay Natural History Society and World Malayalee Council.

Arabs account for one-third of falconers in the world and they import falcons from European countries, especially Germany, which has a suitable climate. Germany is a major breeding center for falcons and Zubair has received special training in artificial falcon breeding from the German city of Stuttgart.

Spelling out the special features of falcons, he says a falcon lays a maximum of four eggs in a year. Half of the eggs are destroyed, he said, emphasizing the need for artificial breeding. The birds usually live on top of mountains, towers and other secure places. "When a falcon goes on a hunting flight, its speed reaches about 350 km per hour. It cuts the cervical vertebra to kill the prey and eat its liver. Houbara bustard is its favorite food."

There are 52 species among falcons and Zubair's studies focused on five of them. It is the national bird of the UAE, which has at least 10 falcon hospitals to provide necessary treatment to the king of birds. It is believed that Arabs have hunted with falcons for the past 2,000 years.

Zubair, who is on a visit to the Kingdom for Haj, warned that falcons would soon become an endangered bird as a result of food shortage, accidents and effect of pesticides. "About 35 percent of falcons die after eating prey that has been exposed to pesticides," he told Arab News.

He called upon governments and wildlife conservation agencies to adopt effective measures to protect this lordly bird from extinction. He also urged tougher action to stop the smuggling of falcons, which has become common as its price ranges between SR10,000 and SR1.2 million.

Gyr, which is well-known for its majestic appearance, is the most expensive of falcons. "It is the only bird that requires a passport to travel from one country to another," he said referring to the measures taken by some Gulf countries to protect the bird. "This also reflects the importance given by GCC states to falcons," he added.

A falcon passport, which includes important information about the bird such as its species, nationality, owner's name and arrival date, is valid for three years, Zubair said. The UAE launched the system in 2002 to ease frequent movement across borders for purposes of falconry.

Zubair's fascination with falcons began in 1993 when he was in the UAE on a job hunt after completing his postgraduate studies in zoology. The board of Sheikh Zayed Falcon Research Hospital in Khazna attracted his attention. He approached the hospital for a job but its German manager rejected his application. "I took it as a challenge and decided to do an in-depth study of falcons," he added.

Dear all,

Just a quick note to advise that, while pottering around on a cool,
rainy day here in the desert, I found a bunch of links to central &
south American ornithology societies.

The new links are to the following:

Sección Mexicana del Consejo Internacional para la Preservación de las
Aves, A.C. CIPAMEX
Asociación Ornitológica de Costa Rica AOCR
Sociedad Guatemalteca de Ornitología
Sociedad Audubon de Panamá www.panamaaudubon.org/
ALAS Nicaragua www.avesnicaragua.org/
Asociación Ornitológica del Plata Aves Argentinas
Unión de Ornitólogos de Chile UNORCH

Hope that they are of use to some of you - I know that a lot of ERSG
members have worked or work and live in this fascinating part of the
world - I look forward to hearing from some new members from these
associations.

Cheers and best,

Dear ERSG members,

Just a reminder that the deadline for submission of paper
presentations of 25 January 2007 is rapidly approachinG!

We have a number of presenters that have expressed interest in joining
the Ethnoornithology Symposium at the SoE conference and have a couple
of vacant spots left.

So, if you want to be a part of this exciting venture get cracking -
go to the SoE website at: http://ethnobiology.org/ for links to
conference information, Registration and Abstract submission.

Please forward all abstracts as soon as possible (as attractive as
"the last minute" is - please don't leave it until the 25th!) - get
them to me before if possible so that I can submit them together.

I'll post advice about running order etc when I receive your abstracts.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries etc - we
will also consider giving "virtual" presentations if you can't make it
to San Francisco.

Cheers and looking forward to your early contacts.

Dear all,

You will have noticed that a couple of messages from young women
seeking company (and perhaps more!) made it through the Yahoo filters
last week.

Because these messages were obviously unrelated to the work of the
ERSG I have removed them and 'banned' the senders. This raises the
issue of 'pending' membership - where I will vet all potential
members. I've been loath to do so to date but will institute that
system if these messages keep getting through.

Also we can now celebrate the ERSG's first birthday! - I'll post a
longer message in the next few days reviewing the last year and
looking at some prospects for the future.

Trust you all well,

Dear all,

Just a brief note to advise that we have operated for a year and a day
(YIPPEE!!) without any major difficulties from spam, harassing or
messages seeking or offering some dubious service or other.

Recently there have been a couple of messages that I, as moderator,
have determined to be unrelated to the purpose of this group - these
were suspicious emails purporting to be from young women apparently
"interested in your profile" and "looking for company".

I have taken the following action (1) banned that member (there was an
earlier instance last year where I took the same action), and (2)
deleted their message/s.

If this sort of message continues to surface I will have to begin
vetting members - I've been loath to do so to date but will if needed.

I welcome any comments from the group as to this proposed course of
action or any other comments relating to dealing with spurious
messages and members who may not be interested in our core functions
but want to use the group as a personal message service for dubious
purposes.

I'll post a happier note in the next few days outlining some of the
upcoming events and looking back at the last year - right now I'm
going camping for the night - sleeping under the stars and watching
birds early in the morning!

Cheers and best,

Just a quick note to advise that, after consideration of the recent
events concerning Spam & nuisance messages, I have today changed the
membership procedure to require that all new members will have to be
approved prior to being able to post messages and enjoy the other
features of the ERSG site.

This has not been done to exercise more control over members (who are
free to use the ERSG site as before once approved) but to ensure your
privacy and on-line safety by adding another layer of security. I
believe that this is appropriate and in line with membership
procedures on many similar groups.

If you have any views about this decision please do not hesitate to

Dear all,

I was looking at the ERSG membership list the other day and I noted
that there seem to be some gaps in our membership - we have a fairly
wide coverage in the English & Spanish speaking world/s but few
members from elsewhere - particularly in east and central Asia, in the
Francophone countries and in the former Russian republics.

Any suggestions about how we might reach out to those parts of the
world (and others I might have missed) would be welcome.

In the past I've found the following useful for getting the ERSG word out:
- ornithological news groups and organisations;
- anthropological & linguistic groups;
- university centres, schools and faculties;
- general natural history groups.

In these days of increasing scrutiny of privacy laws I'm a bit wary of
sending out 'spam' type messages but I'd welcome any email addresses
and contacts that I might send an invitation to.

Dear all - a relayed invitation to the Festival of the Owls in
northern Italy in early June this year.

Cheers,

Robert

Invitation to the First Italian Owls' Festival,

2-3 June 2007 in ITALY

for the First Time in Europe!

Dear friends all over Europe and World,

On the next

2nd (Saturday) and 3rd (Sunday) of June 2007 Italy will host an
amazing unique event in Europe!

The First Italian Owls' Festival !

(italian title: Festival italiano dei Gufi)

The Festival is organized by the 'Rangers Italia Association'
www.rangersitalia.it (in this website you can found many information,
between some days in English version)

The event will be held in the North of Italy, in Lombardy, in a
village near the beautiful town of Bergamo!

The festival will also be an opportunity for all owl-lovers to meet up.

In the world there are research lovers, wood/glass/stone-owl pieces
collectors. There are those who love to observe these animals in
natural habitats, those who write about them in children or adult
tales having owls, barn owls or Little Owls as protagonists, those who
paint owls, those who illustrate books with amazing black and white
drawings or water colours. There are sculptures and people who build
kites and toy planes in the shape of owls.

Well, all these different categories of owl-lovers will be there at
the First Italian Owls' Festival and with this mail we would like to
invite you too!

Bergamo is a beautiful city with ancient sites.

The Alps are only a few kilometres away and the programme includes
night excursions to see Little Owls Athene noctua, Scops Owls Otus
scops, Nightjars Caprimulgus eur., Tawny Owls Strix aluco, Tengmalm's
Owls Aegolius fun., and other birds!

There will be an important international conference (with English
translation), art and photography exhibitions having European owls as
protagonists!

There will also be a book exhibition with books on owls from all over
the world! (If you have or know the famous books please let the
secretary office know).

In Italy we have many talented craftsmen.

There are people who make incredible owl-shaped objects in wood,
glass, ceramics, stone, leather and other materials.

You will surely be struck by the variety of items and you will find
amazing surprises!

A big park, with indoor spaces too, will host the festival and we do
hope many associations, ornithologists, owl 'specialists' and
collectors /lovers will ask you for information and will take part in
the event.

There will be shows for children, meetings with writers and
ornithologists, day and night excursions, raptors from rehabilitation
centres will be set free and there will be a special space for the
promotion of Harry Potter, Martin Hocke and Kathryn Lasky books.

You can download the official documents and all the information on the
website: www.rangersitalia.it

During the next two months the website www.rangersitalia.it will also
give information about accommodation in hotels and a list of
discounted restaurants for those who take part in the festival.

Those who are interested can write to us and will receive an English
newsletter about the Festival.

If you are an association researching or taking care of owls, please
write to the secretary at marco.mastrorilli@... and we will be
happy to give you a free space for exhibition, selling gadgets,
projecting videos or promote a project, a research or book of yours.

At the end of March the first official programme (in Italian, English
and French) of the festival will be available!

But for example in this festival there are:

- A big exposition photografic and educational about the Owl world!
Owls, pellets, feather, distribution and many other information about
the european owls!

- A scientific conference with important contribute from famous Owl
Italian specialist with some different theme (webcam in the owl's
nest, the important recent breeding of Ural Owl in North of Italy, the
status of Short eared owl in Italy, the importance of reproduction of
Owls in captivity by the important reproduction centre in Europe MontOwl,

- A beautiful and special photo exposition about the Little Owl by
