I love to visit the goring area often.
Does anyone know of any holiday accomodation in the area? Anything
considered so long as it is nice and in walking distance of the sea.
I would like to rent it often, occasional weeks and weekend breaks.

Also if anyone knows of a beach hut owner that would be willing to loan
out their beach hut for an odd day here or there, I would love to hear
from them.

I am a very responsible middle aged person and a non-smoker.

Many thanks
Marion

What I find annoying is the nutters who hurtle down Sea Lane likes
its a race track. I've only ever seen a police camera down the road
once and that was just that thing that smiles at you if you doing the
right speed

Not actually been there since the refit, but the food is still
wonderful.

You can even order online using www.takeawaymenu.com, this lists loads
of local takeaways that cover our area. Problem is not enough nights to
eat them all

A small group of concerned residents have started a petition
insisting that the Hospital Trust Board of our local hospitals
reinstate the helipad at Worthing Hospital to allow the Sussex Air
Ambulance to land. The air ambulance is due to be launched on June
8th which caries a doctor and paramedic onboard unlike the police
helicopter at the moment.
As neither Brighton or Chichester hospitals have helipads situated
at their hospital sites and have to land on nearby public parks as
Homefield Park is being used at present. We do feel that if we can
put pressure onto the hospital board to stop using the helipad as
car-parking space it would add to the fight to keep A.E. Department
open therefore saving both of our fine hospitals from being
downgraded.
We are looking for willing helpers to help us with manning our
petition stalls that are planned throughout June in the town centres
or to take petition forms to clubs etc or to gain signatures in any
legal way possible.
If you or family feel they could help in any way please contact me
by email of tel 01903 522909.
We are trying to cover as bigger area as possible as our hospital's
catchment area is huge serving over 300.000 people and we feel they
all deserve a say in the future of their hospital services.

Can't argue with Keith's comment. I actually watched a police patrol
car drive along the seafront two weekends ago to Sea Lane Ferring,
turn around and come back the other way and they did precisely
nothing! Cars parked dangerously all over the place.

Far more dangerous are the visitors who park on the sea front on double yellow lines and on corners making it very hazardous to drive along the seafront in the summer. All because they can't walk 50 yards.

Providing care is taken and no other vehicles are about then turning right out of Amberley doesn't present too much of a problem

It's interesting that this is happening in sleepy old Goring. I have
lived in NSW now for over thirty years and the Oz drivers all pass
incorrectly, it's accepted here and I have numerous arguments about
it. However we even have arrowed passing lanes passing nearside. But
the influence of overseas drives may be spreading, along with bad
driving habits. They all overtake on the inside lane here too and
anyone speeding along a highway simply swerves from lane to lane to
lane. Terrifying.

And how many of us couldnt find torches... I for one who have just given up smoking so had no lighter and also just changed from gas hob to electric found it difficult cos had no matches either..  wish I'd gone to "brownies" when young i might have remembered to have been prepared.....how can anyone forget which way the bathroom was in the pitch dark when you only live in a bungalow. Yet another lesson in "dont take things for granted"..

At last I have found a description that seems reasonable to me - in
the UK Daily Mail no less. The Which feature on batteries was not
much help.

Rechargeables are NiCD Nickel Cadium or NiMH Nickel Metal Hydride.
NiCD are banned by EU from 2008 cos Cadium is hazardous. All mine
seem to be NiCD of course.

Charging time seems to be seven hours, but some chargers switch
themselves off more quickly. It seems difficult, perhaps with older
batteries, to get them up to the full 1.5 volts. Rechargeables lose
power at 1% per day so they will be completely flat without being
used in three months. No wonder the spare batteries I carry in my
camera case never seem much good.

They do say that you ought to discharge the batteries entirely before
recharging. I sometimes find this difficult, particularly because the
camera switches itself off after a few minutes. The razor is easier,
you can leave it running on the table. I worry about the mobile
phone, which I plug in every night.

So not useful for small load devices like smoke alarms, remote
controls. I don't use my camera very often so that rechargeable
batteries always seem to be flat, where as regular batteries hold
their charge better. If I used my camera or iPod every day I can see
that rechargeables would be much much cheaper - between 10 and 50
times better they say.

Regular batteries seem most useful for me, and I buy when the local
hardware shop has a discount offer, and have a vaste stock.

New Year's Wishes

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-enterologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your plumber and the I.R.S.

May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.

May New Year's Eve find you seated around the table, together with your beloved family and cherished friends. May you find the food better, the environment quieter, the cost much cheaper, and the pleasure much more fulfilling than anything else you might ordinarily do that night.

May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them. May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues.

May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, may the commercials on TV not be louder than the program you have been watching, and may your check book and your budget balance - and include generous amounts for charity.

May you remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent, your siblings; but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your tennis instructor.

And may we live in a world at peace and with the awareness of God's love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile, every lover's kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.

Happy New Year to All!

Hi,

As a small child I had my nose pressed up against the 'new' Goring library, waiting for it to open its doors.  And now it's 50!

I am appalled at the idea of flats on the sea-front.  My parents owned the bungalow, now demolished by the council, next to Sea Place Stores (Baloo's?).  In fact my dad, who used to own Mulberry Nurseries, where some houses and shops now are, died there.

I had a very happy childhood in Goring, at West Park Primary School, then the Tech.  I used to climb the trees in Ilex Way (not Avenue) and I am pleased that the trees are still there.  I now live in Paradise, New South Wales (Empire Bay actually but it is a lovely spot) and have fond memories of my hometown.

Happy holidays, all you residents.  While we swelter you will shiver!

Alayna

hi all....Am glad to have been able to joing this group and look forward to speaking to others.  I am involved in campaign to help save our local hospital services provided at Worthing and Southlands hospitals where i worked for 20years before retiring.  Anyone who is interested in helping please contact me as I together with other good people including staff still working there are keen to step up campaign in the new year.  Am presently working with local mayor putting ideas together but also have lots of things that people can do to show their objections to the proposed attack on our local health services.  Sue Cook

I hope you don't mind me joining this group?

I don't live in Goring by sea but I am a frequent visitor. I love it,
my family love it.
I like walking along the seafront. My son is 12 and is disabled, we
find it easy to park alongside the green area and push him in his chair.
It is a shame we can't actually get him up the steps to the sea lane
cafe and at this time of the year gets a bit chilly to sit outside.

I notice there are lots of beach huts along by the cafe but I only ever
see one or two people using them.
If anyone knows anyone who would be interested in letting one out for
the odd day here or there, i would be interested. I often bring my
elderly parents down too, my dad is also a wheelchair user and having
access to a beach hut for an odd day here or there would be such a
Godsend to our family.

I would quite like to move down to the Worthing area, although I can't
do so until my son finishes school.

I would like to stay in touch to find out more about what it is like to
live in Goring by sea.

Thanks
Marion in Crawley

Bill and Ben are missing. If anyone has seen the two terra cotta pots
in the shape of men with hats (Bill and Ben) stolen about 3 weeks ago
from outside the front of our house in Sea Lane please get in touch to
say where they have been seen or let me know any information.

all local groups have been invited to take part to raise funds for the
chestnut tree hospice appeal and to let the community know they are
there and what they do. Whatever your religious persuasion try and
support this event.

Hi everyone

I have an interest in all things Paranormal and Occult. Sopme friends
of mine recently have mentioned seeing a large black cat in and around
the Worthing area....I think they may be pulling my leg but I would be
silly to just ignore such reports.

Can I ask if anyone here has ever seen/heard of one and where/when it
was.

Regards

Stuart

Sometimes eco-friendly products cost rather more than non-eco at the
Supermarket. Bit try this website and check how much your contribution
to the environment really costs. And it is a really neat website.
