Sometimes eco-friendly products cost rather more than non-eco at the
Supermarket. Bit try this website and check how much your contribution
to the environment really costs. And it is a really neat website.

Over 100 local residents crowded into the Yacht Club on Saturday to
protest against the latest planning application for the Eirene Road /
Sea Place development. The meeting was supported by representitives
from The Worthing Society, Goring Residents Association, Ilex
Conservation Group, and the Yacht Club itself. Notable was the
insistance by several attendees, that Rememberance Day be observed by
standing in silence at 11am.

The plans which can be seen on the WBC website under Planning -
Proposed Large Developments are very similar to the ones submitted in
May this year, but now to include the land of the Yacht Club, and
Baloos. Surprisingly the land off Eirene Avenue has not yet been
included, and separate submissions are on the table for this.

The plans for Yacht Club involve a replacement club building on the
dinghy park, but this is not satisfactory because all this land is
required for dinghies and makes no provision for visitors cars.

Unfortunately none of the councillors from Marine Ward or from Goring
Ward were able to be present. And it would have been more
satisfactory if someone from WBC Planning Department could have been
present to explain why this inappropriate scheme was allowed to go
forward.

The objections raised are almost a carbon copy of those raised in
May, and residents were upset that they have to hold meetings to
protest about each small variation of the scheme. The objections
include the ignoring of the Worthing Local Plan which is only two
years old, which allocated the land to low density housing, and to
marine recreation and training.

Other objections include:- building in an area known to be flooded
from the fresh water streams, the excessive height of the proposed
flats, lack of parking in the area, traffic flow on Eirene Road, lack
of refreshments if Baloos is closed, loss of the public toilet,
encoachment onto the sea wall

Mowed the lawn on Sunday. And at this rate I shall have to mow it again
before Christmas. It is November and there are still roses out. Frost
on the car windscreen an three days so far. Yes we are about due for a
climate change; the last warm years were back in the beginning of the
1000's and these things come round every 800 to 100 years.

But a chilly wind some mornings.

A man from Kent, age 24, refused to provide a specimen for analysis but
pleaded guilty of drunk driving. He apologised to the house owner, and
was fined £200 and disqualified for 12 months.

Stephen Stannard from Goring wanted to buy a copy of Worthing Herald in

hand he bought a single Lotto ticket. And this ticket hit the jackpot
of 8.5 million. Well done Stephen. The drinks are on you.

They have started work removing the tree using a cherry-picker.
Interestingly, right next door, under the tree, the house has a car
parked in the drive. Covered with sawdust now. Perhaps it will escape
without having a branch fall on it. The owner apparently is quite
relaxed, and the car has not moved for some years.

Dog insurance is sometimes included with the house insurance. Would you
like to check yours? My wife and two (well-behaved) dogs was walking in
the Goring Hall playing-field when a boxer dog raced up at full speed
and swerved into her, knocking her down. The owner did come across and
acknowledged that his dog was at fault but with our mind on the
casualty we did not get his name. And we have not seen him since.

So it took four ambulance men to carry my wife out of the field,
leaving our two dogs for me to collect. Eight days in Worthing Hospital
while they screwed the top of the tibia back on - the tibia is the main
bone in the lower leg. Now home, sleeping downstairs, on a zimmer
frasme for six weeks, then crutches for another six weeks over
Christmas. I am full time carer and don't seem to have time to do
anything else. We are not happy.

We now find that the plans shown in great detail on the WBC Planning
website are for the previous submission, not the current one. And we
are not at all pleased that that new plans which received such
criticism last time round are so similar with no notice apparently
being taken of any of our several objections.

Remember - objection meeting at the Yacht Club 10.30 this Saturday.

A very big and beautiful Ilex Holm Oak has a serious split in the main
stem and Ilex Avenue Has been closed just at Aldsworth Avenue. The good
news is that cars will not any more be able to drive up the avenue. The
not so good news is that pedestrians and their dogs will have to risk
it and stride over the barrier, or take a short diversion. The
dangerous tree will be lopped soon.

We gather, contrary to local opinion, that ivy climbing up trees does
not do much harm and it does look pretty. We also gather that the
lopped tree near the pavilion in Fernhurst recreation ground will
probably survive, though it doesn't look too well at the moment.

Walking down Sea Lane, Ferring, you will have noticed that nearly all
the trees bordering the Goring Gap are dying. One has already been
blown over onto the field; others will follow. There are some dead at
Whitebeam woods, and I gather there are a lot more at The Gallops. It
is a worry.

They tell me that a dead tree will probably stand for five years before
the roots rot away and the tree falls over.

A new planning application has been submitted for the area round the
Yacht Club, incorporating also the land in Eirene Avenue, Baloos which
apparently will be taken over, and the Yacht Club moved into the dinghy
park. The style is very similar to the previous application and is
still too high, too obtrusive onto the sea wall, and definitely not in
keeping with the low density housing of the rest of the area. We have
submitted our objections.

A protest meeting is being held at the Yacht Club 10.30 Saturday 12

Its official. 2006 was the hottest for 350 years. Unfortunately, or
perhaps fortunately, here in Goring this came with winds that cooled it
down. So the number of days enjoying the beach were limited.

Is this global warming? Or just climate change, when it all comes round
again in cycles of some hundreds of years.

I left a message with Southern Water asking them for a 'hippo' bag to
put into the toilet cistern. It arrived after a month - perhaps they
were out of stock. They save one litre per flush, and my house has 20
flushes a day. Interestingly my plumber is against the idea. The
cistern is designed to do the correct job. Anyway it would be easier to
bend the ball-valve rod. Anyway, the hippo is now immersed and we shall
see.

I have a whole water-butt full of grey water saved during the drought.
I use it for washing the car; and for watering plants in the
greenhouse. Can't think of anything else.

symbolic gesture opposing any possible cuts to healthcare services.

A formal public consultation with future proposals is expected to be

It is the conker season. The kids are throwing sticks up into the trees
to bring them down. They get ticked off for this as a possible safety

But 10% of the horse chestnut trees have conker canker and this could
be a major problem in future years.
