Ogden Nash became a regular contributor of light verse to the New Yorker and
other periodicals. In a country where few people cared about poetry, he became
one of the most quoted poets, coining epigrams such as "candy is dandy but
liquor is quicker." His turn of phrase, puns, and nonsense rhymes had wide
appeal, as in this limerick:
Asked a patient before appendectomy
'What kind of fee d'you expectomy?'
Said the doc, 'If your pulse
Indicates the results,
Anything but a post-dated checktomy.'
Amities,
Rolland
