Dear David
An excellent response, and well done for not letting the article pass
unchallenged. My only concern is that if something can't be expressed
at 'sound bite' length, then tabloid papers can't be bothered to deal
with it in more detail.
For what it's worth, I was leading a school course the other day in
Haringey, and two cars decided that it was a good idea to overtake the
back instructor, four trainees, and myself, coming up to an extended
road narrowing at least ten yards long, only wide enough for a single
car. I had to physically block the second one to stop him, and then
take the group through to make a right turn immediately after the road
narrowing ended. All part of the job, but two things are relevant.
Firstly, there was no cycle lane, and secondly, why would anyone think
it was safe to overtake in a situation like that? The previous week,
going the other way, we had been overtaken by a large lorry (ironically
delivering educational supplies) who ended up in the wrong lane facing
an oncoming vehicle. Again, no cycle lane, just parked cars, and his
decision to overtake.
However, "Impatient Drivers Risk Own and Others Lives" might upset some
of the readers, so better to stick with "Psycho Cyclists Put Other Road
Users at Risk".
All the best,
Chris
