I am doing an research on why is play benfitical for children in hospital and an seminars on long term illness can affect language development, has anyone got any ideas or where i can more information on this. Thanks

I'm sure that all your experience as a play worker will be very useful on course, but don't expect it to be easy.  Everyone i know has really enjoyed it but found it to be hard work and a lot to do. 

 

Each college runs their course slightly differently but the work usually includes a 5000 word project on a subject of your choice; a collection of observations on children ranging between 0-18 yrs; a case study; a project to design and make a toy or piece of equipment for a child in hospital; designing the layout and contents of a hospital playroom; and a professional portfolio which includes play programmes, reports on different dept/areas of the hospital and diaries of your days at placements.

 

You will also have a range of hospital play specialist speakers talking about different areas of the profession inaddition to lectures from your normal tutors.  I hope this is the sort of thing you wanted to know, i'm sure you will love the course, and it does train you to do the best job in the world as far as i'm concerned.

 

Do let me know if the course is different to this, as i would be very interested to hear about it, and give me a shout if there is anything i can do to help.

 

Also please, please, please, could you pass on the details of this hospital play specialist chat room to all the other students on you course and any other play staff you meet at your placements.  This chat room is only as good as the amount of people using it.
