Sorry not to reply sooner, but I've only just discovered this group!
As one of the few male HPS' around I think its a brilliant idea for a
special project. I personally believe that a mix of male/female staff
working in children's wards is really important. I'm the only male
member of staff (apart from doctors) in the paediatric department I
work in and I feel that we need more males working with children
generally, not only in play but also in nursing. I am the only HPS in
our Trust, and I think that it is important for children (and
parents) to see a male involved in play and care. It is also really
helpful when dealing with boys on the ward, especially the
adolescents, who can feel a bit more awkward around females.
I certainly think we need more male HPS staff. I've been to several
conferences and quite a few meetings where I've been the only male
HPS present - which is a shame...
