Hi
Great to hear about another new HPS role in an A&E Dept. You must be really excited.
I have several suggestions that might be helpful.
Do you know about the Walt Disney Children's Hospice/Hospital Giving Programme (CHHGP), there are details on the National Association of Hospital Play Staff website www.nahps.org.uk they maybe able to to donate some play equipment to you.
Also have you contacted Starlight Children's Foundation http://www.starlight.org.uk/ they may also be able to help your dept. On the website under the menu 'What we do' it explains how you can apply for fully equipped Distraction Boxes, Fun Centres - which have a Games Cube, TV, DVD etc on a lockable stand on wheels. Starlight also 'Hospital Projects' where they help equipping Play Areas, it should be worth you contacting them.
On a different scale, you could also contact a local school or children's club such as Cubs or Brownies and see if they would be happy to encourage their children to donate any unwanted toys or play equipment to your dept. You could always to to them for a visit and talk to the children and what sort of things would be useful for A&E and what sort of things would not be useful.
Best of luck with everything. This sounds like such an exciting new project, have you thought about writing an article, even just a short one for The NAHPS Journal, it would be really interesting to read about your progress.
Harriet :-)
