Sunday 19 October 2008: Inter-Faith Civic Celebration of Community, 2.00
p.m., Guildhall, Cambridge; theme: "Vision."
Faith groups are invited to participate in this year's Civic Celebration
of Community to be held on Sunday 19 October at 2.00 p.m. in the Small
Hall of the Guildhall, Cambridge. The theme this year is "Vision." The
Celebration will last about one hour and will be followed by refreshments.
The Mayor of Cambridge will be present to demonstrate the important role
religion has in our community.
The Cambridge Inter-Faith Group, Cambridge City Council Community
Development, and the Mayor, encourage Cambridge religious groups
(especially the larger ones) to participate with a reading, a song, a
poem, or other contribution broadly in line with the ‘vision’ theme.
There is time for about twelve contributions of up to 5 minutes each.
The Civic Celebration in Cambridge aims to bring members of different
faith groups together in a spirit of co-operation and mutual acceptance.
It also brings the importance of faith-based communities in Cambridge into
public awareness.
We want the Celebration of Community to send out a positive signal, one of
respect for people of different beliefs and one that shows that we are
part of the wider community of Cambridge.
Please contact David Wilman (74 Girton Road, Girton, Cambridge CB3 0LN;
ddw@...; tel. Cambridge 276912) or Heather Kara
(heather@...) as soon as possible if your group would like to
participate or is likely to wish to participate.
Please also help in advertising this event within your community. A
poster/flyer is attached.
Arising from last year’s experience, we will try to do more advertising
this year, with a view to attracting a larger audience, and we plan to
arrange the seating so that everyone not making a presentation at the time
is facing the one who is making a presentation.
