Hi all,

Please see information regarding our event this Sunday

With Peace,

Cambridge University Faith Forum presents
                     FOODS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

                         Sunday 4th November
                   Mong Hall, Sidney Sussex College
                               1-4pm

As part of our faith based social action initiatives this term we are
holding a cultural awareness event in association with CUSU Anti-Racism and
CUSU Black Students Campaign called " Foods From Around the World" which
celebrates the diversity of cultures in Britain today through the medium of
food. People from various cultures and traditions will prepare their
favourite traditional dishes for the public to sample. During the afternoon
we will visit each of the stalls and speak to the chefs in order to learn
about the culture/tradition which inspired their dish. The recipes of all
the dishes along with information about each of the cultures which have
inspired the cooks will be compiled into a booklet which will be available
for sale, with all proceeds going to charity. The booklet will also contain
information about the importance of anti-racism work and work with ethnic
minorities which is taking place in Cambridge and the UK as a whole.

By creating a platform upon which members of different faiths may work
together to tackle common social problems, we hope to promote an environment
of mutual respect and understanding between the various faith communities.
By working together with organisations committed to dealing with the
problems of racism and discrimination and with members of the public, we
hope to make more visible the contribution that faith communities can make
within society.

This event aims at bringing together people from different faiths and
cultures to create awareness of the benefits of a multi-cultural society.
Events such as this we feel will encourage cohesion and tackle the ignorance
which contributes to racist attitudes. The event will also encourage the
various faith communities to contribute back to society in a positive way,
engage more with one another and engage more with the public overall,
leading to a more integrated society.

Hope to see you there!

preventative measure, rather than fight racism and discrimination after it
has occurred, an annual ceremonial "CUSU Special Awards" worth 150sterling

action that will proactively counter discrimination through reducing

7. ***Foods From Around the World***

Sunday 4th November, 2pm-4pm

Mong Hall, Sidney Sussex College

Cost: Free (Money raised will go to a charitable cause)

Email cuff@... <%20cuff@...%20> if you want to enter a
dish.

Food is a key aspect of any major world culture, ancient or modern, and
regional cuisines have developed to make the most of the natural attributes
of their native climate and environment. The evolution of regional cuisines
has also been substantially influenced by the belief system of their
respective native cultures and the variation in these cuisines has then
gone on to impact the customs and traditions up to the present day. To
share this very important aspect of culture, CUFF is running an
international food fair this term. With a diverse and international
membership, the range of dishes is sure to delight any taste. If you're
interested in world cuisines but are unsure where to start, why not sample
some traditional favourites and more modern dishes in one place, all for
free. We also hope to produce a small book of all the recipies used, which
we'll hopefully be distributing on the day. Kosher, Halal and Vegetarian
diets will be catered for. If you fancy yourself a chef and want to help
raise money for a good cause, email us at cuff@...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enjoy yourselves!

George

'THE QUOTATION' This is the institution of putting a different quotation
from some inspiring bit of writing at the end of every email, so if you
have any ideas please send them in. In the past they've tended to be from
scripture but send anything you want, religious or not, and if i like it I
might squeeze it in.

So yes:

May the person of the blessed and their kin live for a thousand years! Keep
them long happy, long healthy, long just! Keep them thus, keep them caring
for the deserving! Keep them living and abiding for many years and
countless hours! A hundred thousand thousand blessings upon them!

Doa Tan-Dorostri, The Avesta (Zoroastrian)
