WHAT IS ISLAM? Cambridge Experience Islam Week 2008 gives you a chance to
explore what Islam stands for - an opportunity to hear from internationally
renowned academics, speak to Muslim students about their faith and have all
your questions on Islam answered. As well as an introduction to the basic
principles of Islam, topics covered include human rights, islamic finance,
stories of Britons who have chosen Islam as a way of life, and much more!
Cambridge EIW 2008 is an unmissible opportunity to find out what this
religion is really all about.

The week's schedule of events is below and also attached. For complete

events are free of charge and free lunch will be served at all afternoon

::::MONDAY 18th FEBRUARY ::::

Title: Jesus and Muhammad in Islam
Time: 7pm
Speaker: Timothy Winter (Sheikh Zayed Lecturer, Faculty of Divinity)
Venue: Physiology Lecture Theatre, Downing Site

"...We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before
him, and We sent him the Gospel wherein is guidance and light..." (Quran,
5:46)

Jesus, a figure given high status in the Quran, has been an inspiration for
Muslims throughout history as a selfless, humble and beautiful personality.
Come and find out more on the life and nature of Jesus in Islam, and how he
is related to Muhammad and the Final Message.

Title: Why we are all in debt
Time: 1pm
Speaker: Tarek el-Diwany

Discover the problem with interest and the extent to which usury affects
humanity today. A chance to get a rational view of the economic system of
which we are a part, and explore the ideas of banking and money in Islam.

Muslims today are often reported as abusing rather than upholding the
rights of individuals and society. Let us explore the life and message of

humanity.

Title: Journey to Islam: Reverts Panel

What makes people from different walks of life accept a new faith? Here's
the chance to listen to the personal accounts of such individuals -
some currently students at Cambridge - previously Catholic, Protestant,
believers in other faiths or none.

What do our Imams really preach? Come and have a taste of the Friday sermon

Venue: St. Columba's Hall, Downing Place (off Downing Street, close to the
new John Lewis)

A day of Islamic art and culture...A celebration of the finest art, poetry
and song inspired by Islam, with food, free henna art and much more.
