I've gotten quite a few emails over the last few weeks/months regarding DEMON INSIDE's release date, which as you all know was supposed to be next month.

It's not being released next month. I'm hoping to be able to make an announcement regarding its release date and the reasons for the delay by the end of the week. For now, just trust me that all will be well, the book will definitely come out, and all will be revealed as soon as I'm permitted to do so. And if you happen to see anyone discussing it anywhere, could you pass that message on? The announcement will be here, and all over my blog, and all over the internet, so no one will miss it, I promise.

Thanks everyone!

Hey all,

I meant to post these once a month or so...and I'm hoping to stick with that, in addition to some UNHOLY GHOSTS sneak peeks after the new year.

So, here is this month's DI snippet! Enjoy!

"Hi, Megan."

The scream died in her throat when she saw Rocturnus lounging on her couch. "Damn it, I've asked you not to—"

"You asked me not to jump out at you and I'm not. I'm just sitting here."

"You scared me."

"Sorry." He didn't look sorry, but then demons never did.

She set down the bag and switched on the lamp by the couch. "Where have you been?"

"Checking on everyone." His beady little eyes shifted. Not a good sign.

"And?"

"And they're all alive. No more explosions."

A breath she didn't realize she'd been holding escaped. "Good."

"But…maybe you should sit down."

Megan knew people often told other people to sit down when they had good news for them, too. It just hadn't ever happened to her. There was no point in trying to put a brave face on things as she sat. Rocturnus would be able to feel, taste and smell her every negative emotion anyway. "Okay, what?"

"Well…some of us aren't very…happy. About the changes. And about what's been going on. The deaths."

"I didn't think having your buddies explode would put you guys in the Christmas spirit," she said, "but—"

"Actually we quite like the holidays. Lots of depression, feelings of inadequacy, jealousy…we're very busy this time of year."

"Mmm, just like Santa's elves," she said. "What about the changes?"

The frown on his wizened little face told her what he thought of the "elves" joke. "It's confidence," he said. "I know you don't feel entirely comfortable with us. With what we do. But you have to remember, it is how we stay alive."

"I'm not trying to kill anyone. I think it's fair to ask you to exercise a little restraint, don't you?"

"There's another family."

"What?"

"Another family. I mean, some of us have always had loyalties to other families. Not all of us in this city or even this country belonged to the Accuser."

She nodded. He'd brushed over this subject before, but she hadn't paid much attention. It was enough to know several thousand demons in the city belonged to her. What the others did didn't matter much, at least that's what she'd thought.

Apparently she was wrong. "Another family is forming in the city. Some of yours…they're uncomfortable. They don't like your new way of doing things."

"They'd rather be tortured and beaten?"

Rocturnus nodded. "And be able to live the way they always have."

"But they aren't giving it a chance!" She stood up—so much for sitting down—and started pacing, realizing at the same time she was still wearing her coat and scarf. No wonder she felt so warm.

"They don't think you can protect them," Rocturnus said. "They think you didn't want us to begin with and now you're trying to starve us and you don't care about the explosions."

"That's not true, Roc you know it isn't true. I do care. I went to jail last night for you guys, if I didn't care I wouldn't have bothered to go that house and—"

"I know that."

"Have you told them?"

He nodded.

"But they don't believe you."

"It isn't all of them," he said. "It's not even a lot of them...yet. But enough to make me worry. They just—they don't think you're strong enough."

She brushed aside the little voice in her head that warned maybe they were right. "I want to help them!"

"They want to be ruled, not helped. It's the way demons are." She raised an eyebrow and he amended, "It's the way Yezer Ha-Ra are. The big ones, they have their own needs. They still want a strong leader though."

She never thought she'd live to see the day when she was rejected by a bunch of little demons who fed on human anger and misery. By rights they should be drawn to her like flies to…well, like flies to just about anything. She'd never heard of a discerning fly.

They should be drawn to her like she was drawn to the bottle of vodka in her liquor cabinet. It sloshed into her glass, cracking the ice sticking to the bottom, turning a lovely jewel-pink when she poured cranberry juice over it and added a splash of Rose's lime. A tropical drink for a very cold and frosty night. Hey, something should be warm and tropical. Her insides certainly weren't.

Half the drink was gone before she felt ready to talk again. "So who started this other family?"

"What do you mean?"

"Who started it? Who's in charge? Is it one of you guys or is everyone joining a different Meegra or what?"

From the way his mouth twisted she almost expected him to say the others were joining Greyson's Meegra. But that wasn't possible, she knew it. Greyson wouldn't betray her like that.

At least, she thought he wouldn't.

Shoving that disturbing thought out of her mind, she repeated the question. "Who's in charge, Roc? Come on, if I'm going to be in direct competition with someone I'd like to know who it is."

"I don't know," he said finally. "They wouldn't tell me."

"Can't you—wait, what do you mean they wouldn't tell you? Who wouldn't tell you, the ones who left or the ones who're still with me?"

He looked at his hands.

"Okay, so my demons—the ones staying with me—are now refusing to tell you where the demons who are no longer with me are going?"

"That's the gist of it, yes."

"Fuck." She stood up and held out her hand. "Okay, then. Let's go see them."

"Now? They won't be there."

"Then I'll call them there." Why this was suddenly so important she didn't know. Hadn't she spent half the day wanting to be rid of the little demons, to be herself again? Come down to it, hadn't she spent most of the last three months wishing this whole leader-of-the-personal-demon-pack thing hadn't happened? As much as she liked Roc, being pulled in two directions like this wasn't exactly comfortable.

But now she was hopping mad, fighting mad. It wasn't that they were leaving, it was that they weren't even telling her where they were going. That anger burned in her chest, burned through her entire body. If they wanted to leave that was fine. But to not tell her where they were going, to treat her so disrespectfully…

It wasn't until she'd closed her eyes and reached with her mind for the high-ceilinged room in the sky where they lived that she realized she was thinking exactly the way Greyson kept telling her she should think.

Nope, only ebooks at the moment, sadly. I have no idea what the criteria is to go to print, but whatever it is I guess I don't meet it. But I will (hopefully) have some new on the release date for Demon Inside soon, as well as dates for the Downside books (Unholy Ghosts & sequels), so... We're chugging along!

You are free to print your ebooks for personal use, if you buy them in PDF. At least I'm pretty sure you are. (Psst: Go ahead. I won't tell on you.)

Ooh! Deep fried sounds good! I had deep fried turkey for the first time last
week at the
kids' Thanksgiving Feast...it was so delicious! (The dad that made it is from
Jamaica, so it
had some bite!)
Sorry this turkey didn't cook up like you expected!

Today we gorged ourselves at the in-laws and Saturday we gain ten more pounds with my family. My nieces turned 13 and 10 this week so we'll have birthday cake too. *Drool*

We got lucky this year and didn't have to family hop. Christmas will still be a cluster of rapidly packing gifts and carting ourselves from one city to the next.

We did Thanksgiving yesterday because it was our RPG game day so we had people coming over, and it was my husband's day off. He's working today, but hey, holiday pay :)

Our tradition is that everyone picks a dish and Mom makes it. My son picked "fancy" mac and cheese (the kind with the cream packet instead of the powder packet), my husband wanted deviled eggs, my daughter wanted us to make a triple layer chocolate pie (which was real easy and kid friendly since it was mostly just layers of pudding in different degrees of richness. I linked to the recipe on my blog :)

We mostly just ate together, played our game and hung out. Perfect :)

I hope everyone else is having as great of a day.

Wow, Megan, that's a lot of Thanksgivings, what fun! And how awesome to hear everyone else's plans too, thanks guys!

We just finished eating. Oh, what a disappointment. I'd read this new turkey-cooking method that was supposed to keep it juicy; sadly it did NOT work. Next year I'm going back to my original method, which is to slather butter under and over the skin and cook it upside down for the first hour/hour and a half or so.

Or deep-frying, because that is delicious. :-)

But everything else was good, I'm happy to report, and the pumpkin pie is baking as I type and smells delicious. So I'm happy.

Been up hacking up a lung for a couple of hours now as I try to get ready for 5 other people coming over to partake in waaay too much food.

Hubby and FIL are deep frying the turkey and I'm trying to figure out how to get everything else in the oven (3 dishes, plus the rolls.  This is gonna be messy!)

Awful about Mumbai. We were glued to CNN yesterday.

For Thanksgiving we are going to my sister's. She makes goose
though, which is fine, but I prefer turkey on Thanksgiving. So I'll
be repeating Thanksgiving at home on Friday! I love to roast a big
turkey though because I must have leftovers! This year our bird is
over 20 lbs. I'll make my Mom's chestnut stuffing. I've already
made the Cranberry Chutney because I always bring that to my
sister's. The kids help with it, and it's become a tradition for
us. It's easy to make but very delicious. I'll also make braised
root vegetables for Thanksgiving 2. Hope that you have a wonderful
day.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.  We always cook a 18 lbs turkey or greater.  We like the leftovers.

17. I almost died when I saw it, and it was the only one they had
that wasn't spoken for, as it was Christmas Eve day when I went.
Sigh.)

Anyway. So it's just me and the hubs and our enormous turkey--
Princess will eat turkey, but Faerie won't, and either way, two
little girls are not going to make a dent in a big frigging turkey.
So we're in for an interesting day, indeed.

How about you?

Oh, and today I'm going to blog about why it's important to celebrate
and chitchat when Serious Things are happening in the world.
Especially with what's happening this morning in Mumbai, I think days
like Thanksgiving are especially important.

Hugs to you all

Stacia

I don't think you sounded rude, Tez, don't worry. It's a legitimate question. I can totally understand not wanting things to be spoilered in discussions.

I'm going to keep thinking about it. I don't want to clog people's Inboxes with Special Notices all the time, is the problem. :-)

Oh, thank you so much! I am totally amazed at the reception the book got. I mean, of course I love it; I wrote it. But I never expected people to be so enthusiastic about it, and for it to still be selling eight months after release.

I just hope I don't let everybody down with the second book, lol. *bites nails*

And hey, talk books all you like; don't feel at all that you're only allowed to talk about MY books here. I think everybody here reads a lot, so please feel free to dicuss anything you're reading or have read, by anyone.

So far I've got two of my friends to buy and read it, and everyone who
asks to borrow the Charlaine Harris books (True Blood has been hell on
my book collection), I sneak in this one and few of the other urban
fantasy authors I really like.

I may just be a huge nerd, but I think I like the discussions more
than anything. My husband just gives me a blank look when I start
talking books and my fellow readers work different shifts than me, so
I like having other people know what the hell I'm talking about. ; )

See, you guys are making me want to change mine, and use something that changes too. Although if I want to see bare trees all I have to do is look out the window. :-)

I do like bare trees, though.

My first reaction, when I saw the new colors, was "Oh, yuck, OLDER

red, like the ocean at night. Nifty!
