My board 17 which I am using for a scenario on Saturday has the centre dots about a couple of mm off centre. Does anyone going to the meeting on Saturday have a Board 17 where the centre dots are actually in the centre of the hex, or do all the original board 17s have this problem.

Hi All

A very good turnout yesterday, with 5 games running throughout the day from
about 9.30am. Several new faces, a number of Double One scenarios being tested
and more entries to the tournament itself.

We have 23 entrants signed up for the tournament - a fantastic response, thank
you to everyone for their support! Although very early days, we are already
looking at 2011, so will welcome feedback on the venue, organisation, format
etc.

See you in a fortnight!

We're just one week out from the start of the 2010 edition of the Texas Team Tournament and things are getting into high gear. I wanted to remind folks of a couple of events occurring during the tournemant.

On Thursday evening at 7:30pm, we have David Hailey doing a short presentation on his article "The Geometry of ASL" for folks.  This presentation will be invaluable for everyone in helping them better determine if a LOSs actually exists before deciding to declare that shot and resorting to the thread. Please make plans to sit in on it.

Also on Thursday starting first thing at 9am, we are proud to present

Ferocity Fest 2010

For the first time ever Ferocity Fest moves to Central Texas for the 2010 Texas Team Tournament. Kick off you ASL weekend with some hardcore, hand-to-hand, burning, bloody PTO action.

This year’s scenario features San Manuel Melee. A brutal 10 turn monster with all the toys you could possibly want to make for an exciting time for both the Japs and the boys in green.

The Ferocity Fest opener is a point based mini tourney where both side compete against their teammates to see who can score the highest. Of course winning the scenario will score big but you can easily rack up points for style, flare and doing things that might ordinarily go against a conservative players way of thinking. Some cool PTO dioramas will be awarded to the winner of each side.

So join in, flame a tank, banzai that enemy position, call HTH in close combat, throw that DC and anything else you can dream up to destroy your opponent. That’s why it’s called

                               “FEROCITY FEST”

Make sure to be there and get in on the action. We'll take as many as want to play, and we'll be offering some great 1st and 2nd place prizes for both sides.

On Saturday we are holding a Starter Kit mini tournament.  Right now we have Paul Messina, Patrick Ireland, and Race Carter signed up.  We need one more. Take advantage of the 10% MJ bonus I'll be awarding to anyone playing an SK scenario over the weekend.
Rick

Final arrangements are now in place for this weekend's tournament. Everyone
should have received their packs via e-mail, with maps, info, times etc - if
they have not, please let me know ASAP

The college has wireless internet access which we can use, there is a security
code given to everyone styaing in B&B, plus I will have it as well.

We have 27 attendees, the vast majority staying for the whole weekend. To say
Brendan and I are pleased with the response would be an understatement! Thank
you to everyone for their support. Plans are already under way for Double One
2011!

Safe journey!

The big weekend has finally arrived, but enough about England v Germany, because
this weekend sees the return of the UK summer tournament, Double One. We have
moved to a new venue, an agricultural college just outside Chelmsford, about 30
minutes to the east of London. For all you travellers, Chelmsford is well served
by rail and road links, with Stansted airport less than half an hours drive
away.

The setting is very picturesque, with the college taking great pride in the
grounds. The main action over the next few days will take place in The Writtle
Room, and we have 27 people registered to attend - last minute entries always
welcome, and we have already had to take the option of a second gaming room!

Our first attendee arrived last night, Pete having travelled for almost 15 hours
to attend. Most people are due to arrive this afternoon and into the evening,
with friendly games being arranged. I seem to have found myself double
booked..........

The main action starts on Satruday with a World Cup themed 3 round tournament,
extending into Sunday. We then plan to have the presenations around 2pm, with
the England v Germany being screened thereafter

Further updates to follow over the next few days, with the possibility of photos
as well!

The gaming hall opened at mid-day and games were already in progress by 3pm. The
weather has been hot and sunny (hardly condusive to playing ASL indoors) but
fortunately the main hall has patio doors and is relatively cool.

As I left a couple of games were settling in for late finishes - no-one seems to
be lining up an all nighter as yet.

The draw for the main tournament has been made, with players divided into two
main groups, depending on their UK ASL Crusader ladder rating. Each player then
picks a team from the FIFA world cup groups, and this detemines who they will
play over the next 3 rounds. There was a lot of demands to be North Korea!

The main action starts tomorrow with round 1 based around the excellent French
designed scenarios of Le Franc Tireur, with the afternoon action focusing on
classic core module scenarios.

More updates tomorrow once the first round results are in

The results are in for Double One 2010. There were five groups of 4 players
each, who then played each other in a round robin / world cup style. All but one
of the groups went down to the last game, including the infamous "Group of
Dave", where we could have had a 3 way tie resulting in either a dice off or a
proper penalty shoot out, complete with me in goal!

Anyway, the results are:-

Group A - Wayne Baumber
Group B - Martin Barker
Group C - Ian Pollard
Group D - Paul Haseler
Group G (The group of Dave) - Dave Ramsey

Special awards were as follows:-

Snake eyes king - Mick Essex
Box car champ - Dave Tye
Most successful sniper rolls - Paul Legg
Most unsuccessful sniper rolls - Neil Stevens
The hero generator - Sam Prior
Geneva Convention award (most prisoners) - Stuart Brant

The weather and the college were perfect, and plans are already in place for
Double One 2011

Thanks to everyone for coming and contributing to a great weekend

Just spoken to the college and they were as pleased with the way the weekend
went as we were!

On that basis, Double One 2011 is booked for the weekend of June 24th to 26th.
Entry forms and full information to follow in due course, but the college have
already committed to hold the B&B rates at the same level as this year - plus if
you book before 31 December, you'll save on the proposed increase in VAT!

Been trying to catch up on my sleep after my annual exercise in sleep deprivation, so I apologize for being sadly remiss in getting this status update out. We had another record setting turnout at the Texas Team Tournament this year - 54 folks preregistered and 2 more folks as walk-ins, for a total of 56 participants this year, with a number of new faces joining in the festivities including some that are getting back into the game after long absences. The ASL was going fast and furious for all four days of the tourney with a lot of games played. We gave away a ton of stuff at our raffle on Saturday. The sponsors were really to be commended this year with the state of the economy and all, but their support was terrific and the raffle was a big hit for all of the participants as everyone walked away with a least one item from the table.

In the end we had a number of folks earn the hardware we offer up for the taking. From the Thursday playing of the Ferocity Fest mini, Brian Roundhill took home the Allied Commander diorama and Gary Fortenberry garnered the Axis Commander diorama. In the other mini on Thursday, for the Tyrant's Lair assault of central Berlin using CH's "Berlin-Tyrant's Lair", Paul Hornbeck was the lucky participant who walked away with the game. The John Van Marter ASL Sportmanship Award was presented to Mike Cadieux this year. Mike is a fantastic ambassador of the game, his demeanor during play, and his support of the hobby. The Audie Murphy trophy for the most snakes over the course of the tourney was won by John Hyler (38), and in a tour de force Gary Fortenberry racked up another record (surpassing his record 53 from last year) of 58 boxcars in four days to take home the Col. Klink award. The Major Johnson award was won by John Hyler (Houston) playing several huge scenarios over the weekend starting with Bloody Red Beach on Thursday and following it up with 7 more scenarios over the course of the weekend.

For the major prizes, the team of Jim Ferrell (Fort Worth), Bill Dorre (Houston), and Paul Chamberland (Latham, NY) walked away with the overall Team Tourney prize. And for the individual awards, Jim Ferrell (Fort Worth) caught Gary Fortenberry when his dice left him at the wrong time to take the overall 10-3 award, with Gary being awarded the 9-2 runner-up.

The website has already been updated for next year, so if you want to register for the 19th Annual Texas Team Tournament, go for it. All the details are on the website, but as always we are the week after Father's Day. That means you should begin planning now to make that trek to Austin from June 23-26, 2011 and join in the fun.

Hi Richard

Cheers for your message. Unfortunately I’m unavailable for the July meeting, as well as September, plus already booked for August. However, I’m definitely free for the October meeting on the 2nd, so shall we pencil in a game then?

Best wishes

Derek
