I'm revisiting the whole Native civillians question. Seems, judging by photos,
that Apache boys looked much like Apache men, just shorter. Photos from the
1900s decade show adult women in long skirts & quite elaborate pleated blouses,
with shawls, however these date from a period when they are already quite
assimilated by the whites. I suspect FOUNDRY's Mexican women offer a perfect
proxy of their appearance in the High wild west era (Just paint the big pot up
as woven rather than pottery; Foundry also have 2 pretty generic Indian women
imbedded in 2 seperate packs in the Mountain Men range ) I've seen a reference
to their appearance pre-white influence consisting of shorter leather skirts &
leather blouses- anyone got info on this? Modern ceremonial wear seems to be
chamois with lots of fringing, rather similar to traditional plains garments. I
assume little girls dressed like smaller versions of the adult women?
Off the wall, I'm looking at Copplestone's Ngoni women archers are a possible
basis for conversion. These are naked except for either short breech cloths or
very short woven skirts. The negroid features are not a bad proxy for Apache
facial structure, once the Afro hair is concealed with long Amerind tresses. It
would just be a case of lengthening breech cloths & skirts, adding boots & upper
body wear. & altering the arms, which are all brandishing bows as the pack title
suggests...
I've just painted up my HASSLEFREE little girls as white settler kiddies, the
boy has a tunic & trousers & I'm pondering adding long hair & then either using
him as blackfoot kiddie or trimming his tousers down to bare legs & using him as
Apache.
If I'm feeling really keen I may sculpt some original masters & avoid all this
conversion work!
