Hi all, i am happy to see that a rule set of the wild west has / is
coming out. My question is to those who have a set of the rules. (our
local game store is yet to recive there order) What are the rules
based on. IE, is it like Necro, like LOTR etc or is it a combo off
the to, or is it something new? i would wait until i get a
copy....but my mind won't let me rest until i know.

Yes. I would expect to see a set of maximum stats for a human fighter to
attain.

An anomaly I spotted in the rulebook.

On the roster sheet there is a space on the henchmen sheet for 'group
experience'. However as I read it in LoTOW henchmen are bought individually
and not in groups. Is that a hangover from the Mordheim based part of the
rules or have I missed something?

I am in part extrapolating from my knowledge of Mordheiem which is where
this experience system comes from. If I am wrong I am sure someone will
correct me.

The Infamy rating says to multiply the number of fighters (including HG) by
5 plus their exp points. As Legends don't gain any further exp and they are
not mentioned above, then I would take it that the their 'value' as
representing the total exp+5. The HG are not so obvious. You obviously have
to include the +5 as it says above and add the '+x' as per the individual HG
rules then further add any new experience.

Does that sound logical?

I wonder if anybody out there can help - on page 89 Character
Increases, Henchmen can have only a single increase applied to their
basic stats (appart from if they become Heroes)But there does not
seem to be maximums set for Heroes to attain ? Brilliant set of rules
played 2 games this weekend. Busy painting more figures to start an
Outlaw posse to go with my Lawmen & Cowboys

Hello,

I have a question regarding how hiring Legends (and hired guns) affect a
posse's Infamy.

Hope this doesn't violate the rule against "reproduction of rules" but I
can't figure on how to ask without including part of the rules in question.

"Calculate Infamy Rating" says Legends and Hired Guns count as 1 model
towards the total Infamy of the Posse (in effect 5 Infamy)...also each
Legend and Hired Gun profile has a bit about how that figure adds X Infamy
to the posse's total.

Does the "X Infamy to the posse's total" include the 5 Infamy per model or
is that in additon to the base cost?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Bob

I have to say that I saw it at games day but didn't get to play. It looked
fantastic but I was too busy helping run my own game (which was just on the
next table).

There is the printable Whitewash City stuff which isn't bad. Pay for

I've not played LoTOW yet but it is the same rule as in the Lord of the

Howdy Y'all

My friend and I (from the US) were over at Games Day UK and watched
a few play it. The game looks great and I am looking to see if I
can get it locally. To be honest, I have been thinking about this
game since. It is so new and different compaired to anything the
locals here play.

The scenario that they were playing only had a few desparados on
either side so I don't know how 'playable' it will be with the
hundreds on a side such as one person questioned but it is indeed a
1:1 game.

The shooting phase which was rather unique (to me,) in regards to
cover. We all know that in 40k and many other games (well, I think
we all do,) that cover either gives you a better save or a modifier
to the die roll to hit. In Legends of the Old West it was explained
that first you roll to hit. If you do and there is something in the
way (A hay bale, a donkey, somone else,) that you then make a roll
to see if you hit the closest item, then the next further etc.

I am looking forward to getting the book, some minis, and then my
own version of Dry Gulch or wherever.

Like LoTR. The shoot value is the roll required to hit. If you want
to blast off shots everywhere then get a 6-shooter and fan it. You
might not hit much but it created one heck of a noise.

Yes (if I recall Necro right)

Howdy Cowboys,

Frank here, signing in to see if this gunslinger lark is all that I
am hearing it is cracked up to be :-))

Anyway, I am committed to getting the rules (probably next Wednesday)
and will see if I can get a game of this down the club. Until then I
can't really pass any comments, or give an opinion on anything, so
I'll just listen to you lot until I have something to contruibute, if
that's ok with everybody?

Cheers

I thought that I would piggy back on this message to introduce
myself.

I am Terry Maltman. Some of you may recognise my name from other
Yahoo groups. I picked up the Old West book at the GW Veterans open
day last weekend. I was taken by the interesting blend of my two
favourite GW games. I have long thought that Mordheim and LoTR had
good points which would cross over. All I need now are some models
and scenery.

I know that we can’t post rules, etc. due to copyright infringement.

However, I’m a little spooked at the asking price for just the rules, and I’d like a wee bit of clarification before investing such a sum of money in yet another game.

Since shooting is such a major deal in this game, could someone describe the range of shooting-skill values?  Is a “2” very low”, or is a “4” very low, sort of thing?  Does it work like in LotR, where you simply get a single shot off, unless you have a major skill allowing multiple shots per round?  Does pinning work like Necromunda?

I’m just trying to get a handle on the mechanics before I invest.

Would it be possible to see the stat values on 2 different characters (say, a “regular guy” and a “starting gunslinger”) or something like that, so I could get a feel for the flow of the game, the balance, and so forth?

Please, be careful so as not to infringe upon the copyright issues.  I don’t want anybody getting in trouble, especially people who are nice enough to try to answer my questions!

Just got the rules today, straight out of the box.

The main rules look playable, and since I play a lot of the LoTR game
hopefully I won't get caught out with any changes and show myself up.

Like others have said I'll get my figs and terrain out and have a
bash. Also bought my wife a couple of cowgirls from Cowboy Wars to see
if I can tempt her into this.

And, since the shop (Static in Glasgow) were playing Ennio Morricone
Western themes today then I'll have to get that too!

Is this still in the planning stages or is there some serious work being done on it now? I am curious as to the scale/scope of the supplement and wanted to ask about it.

1) Is this a 1:1 style game where you can actually use the 186-200+ defenders that were supposed to be there?
2) Will this also be able to be used to game other battles within the Texas Revolutionary period?  (I always like to think that that Goliad thing would come out differently!)
3) Do you desire any help on it?

[Rob Broom] Hi Tim

Yes, 2 supplements are planned and details are in the Old West, but one involves the Alamo and the other Custer and the Indian tribes.

Similiar vague plans existing for other projects, if I recall correctly, some one from the North Phoenix Irregulars has submitted a proposal for Pirates via Tom Opalka (but I have not reviewed it as yet) and you probably know them- (in fact, it might even be you, as I have not opened the mail as yet!!!)

Good Morning Rob,

Thats good to hear that there are 2 more supplements planned. I look
forward to these as well.

As for the North Phoenix Irregulars, Tom Opalka & the proposal, your
right! It was me, Tom & I are pretty good friends & after he & I were
talking one day he was the one who said I should put in the proposal.
No rush on it Rob, I understand your pretty busy with everything.

It's also good to hear that the book has shipped, I will give my
local shop a call today to get him to order it. Now to put down all
these Pirates & start painting Lawmen!

Howdy Folks,

First off let me say good job Mark on the rules! I have seen them &
thought you did a wonderful job! Now I have to wait until my local
shop gets in the book.

Secondly, this might not be the right group to ask, but seeing how
the regular WAB group had some resentment towards this book, I
thought I'd ask. What are they plans to support this book
(supplements for Old West)& are there going to be other books
covering different periods? (Pirates as a example)

Thirdly, Keep up the good work! For a long time I have been waiting
for something along these lines, & I'm quite excited to see this book
make it to print!

So Hey, enjoy the book, US stock started shipping earlier this week, and depending on where your local store gets their stock from, you might see it next week.

Alternatively make a call to any one at Fall In, there should be stock there.

Read my rules from cover to cover on the toilet last night despite
the barracking on the WAB group.  I have dusted off my wild west town
chased the spiders out of the saloon and dug out the pile of

Well done the rules, presentation is the best yet and hopefully will
