Hi there
Not strictly a marketing question but more
of a technical one, I hope someone can help.
We’ve just had a £10k legacy in
which has come from the personal bank account of one of our existing supporters
(and ex trustees). She writes in her letter that the deceased “was a
family friend and my husband and I were her next of kin and executors….following
a Deed of Variation on her Will I am pleased to enclose a cheque for £10,000. I
would be grateful if you could send me a formal receipt for this cheque to put
with the Estate papers.”
My question is, would this be considered
an individual donation or a legacy for budgeting and relationship management
purposes. My feeling is it’s not strictly a legacy as our charity were
not written into the Will but received a gift from the Estate as a result of someone
else’s support for us, not the actual legator.
My legacy budget is very healthy this year
but my individuals budget is not quite so healthy so I’m trying to argue
that we can allocate this donation to individuals!
What are your thoughts?
Thanks
