RE: [Legacymarketing] Legacy Publications/Directories - who to advertise in?

Hi Paula,

We currently advertise in Charity Choice only, I personally have never received any feedback from anyone leaving a legacy to us stating that they saw our details in this publication. In my experience our supporters already know that they want to leave us a legacy and our details in CC are there purely to help the solicitor with the Charity reg number etc.

I don’t come from a legacy background so I’m happy to be shouted down here but as I stated previously – in general, if you know you want to leave money to a charity I don’t see that you would flick through a publication to find the right one, a Charity will already be close to your heart hence the reason to give.

Probably not much help – sorry!!

Best Wishes

Sorcha Warren

Subject: [Legacymarketing] Legacy Publications/Directories - who to advertise in?

Dear all,

We currently advertise in 3 legacy directories, Charity Choice,
Lawgazette and Charities Digest. I am looking at reducing this to
two, maybe even one and using the money saved on 'other' legacy
advertising. Additionally I have received sales calls from The
Charities Story Book and Tribute to Charities, neither of which we
currently advertise in.

They all seem to be offering the same service, although it seems that
some directories send their books to will writers, funeral directors,
reference libraries and bank trust officers, as well as solicitors.

Does anyone know if solicitors etc actually use these publications so
that their clients can select charities to leave legacies to, or do
they just sit on their shelves?

If they do get used, which ones are worth paying to advertise in?

Any advice about advertising in these directories would be very much
appreciated!

Many thanks
Paula

Every time this subject comes up the answers are always the same (quite rightly) - legal mags are used as a point of reference and are "defensive marketing"...

I am personally fairly sceptical about these advertisements, not least because of the 'hard sell' techniques of many of the sales reps. I would be really...
