Hi Georgina
I tended to mention to the families that we liked to thank in the annual review and that unless they wished otherwise that we would. Not specifiying the amount but with a small footer about how important legacies and in-mem donations are to the charity continuing and how useful pledging is etc. etc. Makes a nice reminder for other donors.
If its a particualrly big legacy/or interesting history with the charity you could even do a small feature about how they supported in their lifetime.
I found many families liked this very much and were pleased to receive their copy mentioning their loved one with a personal note.

Subject: [Legacymarketing] Thank you list in annual review
Hello
I'm just wondering if it would be appropriate to list legators in our
annual review. We always thank corporate supporters and Trusts and
foundaitons but historically say little about legacies.
I would be interested in how others ackowledge legacy gifts in
publications and the type of wording you use.
Many thanks
Georgina Pope
