Dear all

Many thanks for all of you who responded to my email so far (See below)
Urged by the earlier emails I have called the Stroud Green Safer Neighbourhood Police Team and followed their suggestion and

  • reported it on line http://www.met.police.uk
  • you can call Haringey Police on 020 8808 1212
  • or pop into any Police Station.

I reported it on line on Sunday morning and I got a call back from our local police this morning. I should add here that reporting crime on line, is NOT suitable for emergencies or cases that are unfolding in real time. Then you want to call 999

I wish and hope this is an isolated event, and no one else has to go through this kind of experience. But please be watchful and let us know if you have any additional information.

Best Wishes
Ofer

Ofer -

Oh my God - that is extraordinary. No pots missing yet, but Donald's bike, secured with a U-lock to our gate, stolen on Wednesday night - must have used a car jack.

Bastards.

Hi Ofer

We had something similar a few years ago. I heard some rustling in the front garden at about 2 in the morning. Looked out the window and saw an old man on an old bike with loads of carrier bags full of plants!! He was too quick for me. Told the police but not alot they could do apparently.

Kind regards

Hi Ofer,

Sorry to hear that. We lost a pot plant around 8 years ago since then nothing.

I would report it as they have come prepared and these large items sell for a lot of money at car boot sales. If they are that organised you are not the only one.

Ofer and SGRA,

I am sorry to hear of your theft.

As Ralph says, and as discussed with you this morning, it is important that all crimes are recorded correctly and fully.
I appreciate you have made us (Stroud Green Safer Neighbourhood Team) aware through this website and by your phone call. However it is important that the full details are recorded.
To do this you can report certain crimes online via the following web site: www.met.police.uk or you can call Haringey Police on 020 8808 1212 or pop into any Police Station.

I ask that if anyone else has similar problems or issues that they report as above.

Obviously it is also good to mention on these sites so that others and neighbours are aware.

Hope this helps.
Please give us a call if anyone has any further questions.

Hi Ofer,
Sorry about your bush/tree. Unfortunately garden thefts do happen and no
question, it should be reported to the police, along with any other similar
incidences. There may well have been incidences and it is only if the police
are aware of a sufficient number that they will be able to justify
allocating resources to the issue.

Perhaps other members might keep an eye out for any newly planted mature
bottle brush tree/bush. It will have been targeted by someone (local) who
knew it was there.

Ofer – ALL crime should be reported to the police, otherwise they will keep on knocking out these bogus statistics that try to persuade us that crime is falling, when our experiences show the opposite to be the case. This does not mean they will actually do anything. We have this sort of thing in spades up at our allotment site, and the police have proven to be profoundly useless at all times – even when an intruder has been caught red-handed, detained and handed over to them. But I think it is still important to nail the lie that they are “winning” the fight against crime when in fact they have no chance of doing any such thing.

Hi Ofer,

My neighbour at 192 SHR had an attempted theft of an old wooden painted wheelbarrow last week (I reported it on the website).  Fortunately it was chained to the ground and was not taken but badly vandalised  and a plant pot smashed and my neighbours were very upset as the wheelbarrow had been in the family for many years.  The police were informed and they asked if perhaps anyone might have had a reason to do this (argument with another resident or some such) but my neighbour couldn't think of anything.  I advise you to also tell the police as this might be another wave of garden theft.  I also informed our community police team in the guise of Bob Stevenson.

You may remember that there was also a spate of planter theft in Granville Road about 2/3 years ago.

Hi Ofer
sorry to hear about your stolen property, I  think you should definitely call the police and report it. Community satistics rely on this, as you know,  if I hear of   any more garden thefts I"ll let you know.

Many thanks
John

Hi Ofer
My husband's bike was stolen front the front of our house on Uplands Rd a few months ago, we called the police and they weren't very interested! But i'm glad that i reported it anyway, i think it's important that they know things like stealing from people's front gardens is occuring, even if it only means that they send a few more patrol cars down the road. Sorry about your tree :-(.

Hi All

I have just discovered that the ‘garden thieves’ are back!!!

An established bottle brush tree/bush(4 years in the ground) was dug up and
stolen from our front garden in the last 2 days.

We had a wave of garden theft on Uplands Road about 4, 5 years ago with
plants dug up and window boxes stolen.

Did anyone else have experienced or heard of similar incidents?
Do you think I should report it to the police?

Best Wishes
Ofer
