Help! My old Robinson Willey pretend coal fire is in need of it’s thermocouple being replaced.. I have the spare part, but I’m rather shy of ‘messing about’ with gas appliance etc!!  (Don’t want to create a large hole were 79 Rathcoole Gardens once was)!.. Is there anyone in this group who can either provide the expertise or recommend a tame Corgi?   Don’t think this is a long or difficult job... Cash on offer etc??..

Cheers all
Kenny :-)

Hi John
I think we should use the Safer police Unit - is that another name for community police?
Good luck
Hattie

Many thanks Hattie and Lisa,

I did talk at length to him (and a friend of his). Their main line of argument was that, because they were licenced and insured, 'the police couldn't do a thing' which was what they stuck at for most of my lengthy discussion/argument. I had, I will confess, earlier walked out into the street as he was speeding up Rathcoole Gardens and more or less flagged him down (risking life and limb) to complain and to say I WAS  calling the police! His first words were, 'I'm insured and I have my road tax etc' which I said wasn't the point. I later walked up Harvey Road because I had a hunch that's where he lived and found him at the top, where I apologised for getting angry (the endless patience of the liberal mind!) and then talked about the stress and danger he caused. He grudgingly said sorry at first, while carrying on with fiddling with his bike - I thought he was embarrassed at having me standing there chatting and making jokes and would have preferred aggression - but gradually he retreated into defiance, more or less saying that he was entitled to use the road as a testing ground, that the noise was inevitable because of the engine (!) and that no-one could stop him etc etc and thence once more into the fultility of calling the police. I wouldn't say it was a meeting of minds but the more people speak out the better because it's a problem that tends to recur and it really is quite dangerous in a narrow street like Rathcooole. I always thought the point of the Safer Neighbourhood Police Units was to talk to various youths and point out the pitfalls - I'm inclined to ask our Unit to pay him a call but I won't if people think it's counter-productive. Anyone else witnessed this phenomenon?

Best Wishes,

John

The young man lives at 33 Harvey Road. I believe his name is Jordan (although I could be wrong).  His dad, Mike, is the nicest bloke you will ever meet. Jordan isn’t a “bad‡ kid (young man really)—just irresponsible and immature.  The dangerous scooter riding makes me crazy too. He is going to kill himself or someone else if he keeps it up.   I’ll try to have a word with him this week and let him know that he is the subject of neighbourhood anger/frustration and see if I can talk some sense into him.  In the meantime, I encourage everyone else to talk to him too if they catch him at it. Neighbourhood shaming is likely to have a much greater impact than the police!

Yes I have noticed the odd single speeding scooter. Not the mad races tho of a couple of years ago. Good on you for talking direct to the rider rather than jumping to call the police. I'll try and do the same.
