Subject: [Q8Sailing] New to kuwait..would love to continue sailing
Hi!
I'm Isha,17 years old and new to Kuwait.I've taken a sailing course before lasting around 9 months or more at the Regatta Sailing Academy in Doha.In addition,I've sailed from Doha to Bahrain and back with my sailing crew in 2008.
I was wondering if I could join a club or something for sailing here since I'd really like to continue it.Also,I was wondering if I could take part in races since I really want to go a step further with sailing.

My husband and I moved to Kuwait about a month ago. We are both quite sporty and we are interested in taking up sailing. Is it possible to have any information about how we can go about this?
JENNIFER...Have you been to the SHAAB MARINA AND YACHT CLUB,??? Which is where a lot of COSA MEMBERS AND THEIR CLUB BOAT,, WANDERER was located and the lessons were given aboard..... drjoe
Hi! I am a Canadian who just moved to Kuwait a month ago to teach. Just wondering how to actually get ahold of the sailing club to sign up for lessons? The phone number I found seems to be out of service and my email hasn't gotten a response.

The TEC Kuwait Sailing Club (KSC) sails catamarans lasers and optimists (cats and dinghies) from the Fahaheel Sea Club - they sail most weekends, and have a race and BBQ every second week. They have no formal lessons, they are a group of boat owners who sail together and pick up novices (especially the ones who bring chocolate) from the beach and train them up - that's how most of us leant to sail, by just hanging around. If you want to join us, call me - 66688753.
Kuwait Offshore Sailing Association (KOSA) is a group of yacht owners, who also race every second week, and they have a very exciting meeting on the first Tuesday of every month where you'll be fed pizza. They ahve a club boat, which is going for a shakedown sail this Friday at 10am - call the bosun Phil if you're interested: 97275705 - he'll also tell you about the training course they have on the yachts.
All the best,
Kate

My name is Jem, iv been in kuwait for the last 5 months and am really interested in sailing, learning to sail. I was browsing the net and came across the KOSA website, which directed myself to this group...so i thought Id write a mesaage and introduce myself.
Thanks for the hospitality you and the other club members showed me yesterday at the Fahaheel Sea Club! I enjoyed the expereince and very much look forward to learning more and meeting other members as well as participating in future events.
Please feel free to include my E-mail address for future correspondences from Paul or yourself. I'll not be available for the next month as I'll be abroad visiting family and friends for Christmas.
Happy Holidays and I look forward to future sailing opportunities in the new year.
My days off are presently Thursday and Friday, so I'll be there! See you Friday morning at 0800. I'm looking forward to meeting the members and learning more about sailing and how I can get involved!
The |Kuwait Offshore Sailing Association is an active sailing club based
in The Fahaheel Sea club in Fahaheel at the end of road 212. There are 11
keel boats there ranging from 24 to 40 ft. Six of the boats race regularly
every second Friday morning.
I suggest that you come to the next race at 8:00 am Frid 14th Dec to meet
the members of the club

I haven't been there for a long time but the Kuwait Offshore Sailing Association is still there and you will be able to find it on the internet with a link to their Commodore.

I'm asking a favour for old time's sake. I was KOSA Vice Commodore
back in the eighties and was in the KOSA crew that entered the 1981
Fastnet.
I sailed a Carter 33 called Shamaal, registration KT-247-A. When I
left Kuwait in 1988 it was operated by a consortium of four (I
retained a quarter share)who may not have bothered to change the
official ownership record at the Ministry of Small Boats.
Please find out on my behalf who owns the boat now. I ask this
because the boat was taken from Kuwait by a Dutchman called Bert
Hakker shortly after the First Gulf War and Bert abandoned the boat
in the UAE seven years ago, leaving it on a cradle at Kalba Port (on
the Gulf of Oman side of the country).
I recently found the boat while on a visit to Dubai and am keen to
rescue the dear old boat but without any papers no one can touch it.
Unfortunately the local municipality will scrap her if no one takes
responsibility for Shamaal soon.
This is a chore but I'm sure you will sympathise with my plight. I
hate to see the old boat rotting in the sun.
Cheers,
Adam Reay
PS I have a load of photos of the old days. If you want them for
your archives let me know.
