1. BA (Hons) in World Music Studies
2. MA Pathways in Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies

We are delighted to announce that from September 2006, our BMus and
MA programmes will be extended to offer the following:

1. A new optional undergraduate pathway in world music studies and
ethnomusicology. Students who successfully complete at least five
ethnomusicological elective modules in Parts 2 and 3 from the list
below, and who satisfy the requirements to pass the core module
specialising in non-western Ensemble Performance, and who
successfully complete a Major Project at Part 3 in a related approved
topic may apply for the award of BA Honours in World Music Studies.

Elective modules: African Music Studies; African-American Music
Studies; Global Perspectives; Indonesian Music Studies; Jewish Music
Studies; Latin-American Music Studies; Music Traditions of the Far
East; Music Traditions of the Middle East.

2. From 2006, our MA programme will include two new pathways: Popular
Music Studies and Ethnomusicology. Students following these new
pathways will be required to undertake a research dissertation in an
area related to some aspect of popular music studies or
ethnomusicology, as well as following our core taught MA module,
which includes classes in both fields. Successful candidates will be
awarded the degree of MA in Musicology (Popular Music Studies) or MA
in Musicology (Ethnomusicology).
