Hi Kevin and Jamil,
You should not worry that much about the thikness of
the rim. The 2mm you mention of the toq (the wooden
ring inside the perimeter of the rim) sound normal.
generally, if you like the sound of the tombak, you
should be satisfied with it.
cheap tombak can have good and bad sounds, expensive
tombak can have good and bad sounds.
You will start distinguishing and appreciating the
sound of the tombak as the time passes by. Until then
enjoy what you have.
