As has been said before, to be effective in Unarmed
Combat, one would have to put skill points into all
three skills. RQIII has fist and kick as seperate
skills and Martial Arts as a third skill that
functions in exactly the same manner as Ringworld's
Unarmed Combat skill.

Fist and Kick use the Unarmed Combat skill, check out pages 15-16 of the Explorer book for the skill description. ... to ... hit ... damage ... enough...
