I remember, in the days shortly after Tuesday, September 11, 2001,
seeing a fascinating news broadcast: a UK military band, in full
traditional dress, assembled in front of the US embassy in London and
played a haunting bagpipe rendition of the Star Spangled Banner as a
sympathetic tribute to the American dead. It was a touching and
humbling gesture of solidarity, and I can only hope that in the wake of
this fresh tragedy in London, my government is able to return the favor
in some way, and with the same tasteful elegance.
all best,
Robert A. Ogden II
