It's interesting to note that geologists making ice cores in Greenland discovered a high level of lead in the ice corresponding to the Roman period when a lot of Lead smelting took place.  Then it went down again and went up again when Lead was added to gasoline.  :-)

I've also heard 'Homogocene' not indicating Homo our genus name but because future palentologists will see a homogenisation of species in the (future) fossil...
