Difficult to say, as much depends on connection speed, PC speed and the image itself.
For fast, hassle-free loading, images should usually be stored and transfered as .GIF files. These produce acceptable quality results when viewed in a web browser. Higher quality files like .JPG (J Peg) and .TIFF tend to produce MUCH larger file sizes that viewers with older PCs and dial-up connections might have difficulty loading.
As a rule of thumb, I use GIF for web use, and JPG for image manipulation that I intend to print out. I also use Adobe Photoshop to keep track of the file size and optimise image sizes before sending them. I think you really need to keep file sizes below 200kb. This means they load relatively swiftly and, if emailing them, won't clog-up inboxes. A friend once sent me a book he'd worked on that was filled with TIFF images. It paralysed my mailbox and took for ever to download!
Hope this is helpful.

Just wondering if any of you were in the London area or near enough that we could have a one off game sometime? If you are interested. I know that a number of you are across the pond and the otherside of the world. Material from the house campaign would definitely go up on the site.
That's great - no worries about the timing - thanks for keeping me posted.
I'm hoping to run a Ringworld game early next year.

I'm going to move the website from 1and1 in the new year to a hoster that will run it for free as I can't afford to run this site anymore. If I'm unable to do this then January will be the last month that this site will exist.
A good idea
Pitty about the problems, I'll have the first "spin-off" technology from
the senario I'm working on in a couple of weeks (no pressure)

I'm thinking of putting a GM screen for RW RPG. However, until I fathom how to rework my site using Netfusion I won't be able to have downloads from my site. I'll have to look at that over the coming month or so. Nice having a pretty site but crap if I can't post stuff for download. The Site Creator software that 1 and 1 my service provider, gives, was great for starting the website - the results are plain to see, but it won't allow you to post items for download, other than pics.
Even if they last forever attrition from loss and greater demand from a
growing population would increase the value of the hull available in the RW
era.

I think the GP hull was quite numerous. Being that
the Puppeteers would sell them to anyone who had the
money to buy. Having them to expensive would hurt
business. All the crusise ships had GP hulls. Also
that story about the explorer who gets kidnapped on
the Slaver world with the trees that had rocket fuel
in them. That guy had a GP hull. GP hulls are
everywhere. Since they are virtually indestructable
they would last forever.
Hi All (Addressed both to the Larry Niven mailing list and the RWRPG
yahoo
group),

I'd like to see if any of you had any thoughts on the thread below,
which
Nesssus and I are having on the nature of Space Technology in Known
Space.
I'm thinking of writing an article on this for the Ringworld RPG website
and
ultimately to provide further rules on space tech for the game but wanted
to
know what the state of such technology was.

I suppose I've answered my own question (in the email below). The UN
would
want to prohibit the use of ships for piracy. What's to stop an alien
race
supplying the information. Perhaps the ARM have paid the Outsiders not
to
divulge such information to Known Space, well until somebody comes
along
with a better offer. Perhaps the ARM provides a yearly income to the
Outsiders.

BTW - what do the Outsiders do with all that money? do they buy
information
with it? They don't seem to have much technology of their own?

Also - wasn't there a burgeoning space techonology at one time? Having
said
that, the ship that Beowulf Shaeffer used to go to Barnard's Star was a No
2
GP hull.
I think the GP hull was quite numerous. Being that
the Puppeteers would sell them to anyone who had the
money to buy. Having them to expensive would hurt
business. All the crusise ships had GP hulls. Also
that story about the explorer who gets kidnapped on
the Slaver world with the trees that had rocket fuel
in them. That guy had a GP hull. GP hulls are
everywhere. Since they are virtually indestructable
they would last forever.

Hi All (Addressed both to the Larry Niven mailing list and the RWRPG yahoo
group),
I'd like to see if any of you had any thoughts on the thread below, which
Nesssus and I are having on the nature of Space Technology in Known Space.
I'm thinking of writing an article on this for the Ringworld RPG website and
ultimately to provide further rules on space tech for the game but wanted to
know what the state of such technology was.
I suppose I've answered my own question (in the email below). The UN would
want to prohibit the use of ships for piracy. What's to stop an alien race
supplying the information. Perhaps the ARM have paid the Outsiders not to
divulge such information to Known Space, well until somebody comes along
with a better offer. Perhaps the ARM provides a yearly income to the
Outsiders.
BTW - what do the Outsiders do with all that money? do they buy information
with it? They don't seem to have much technology of their own?
Also - wasn't there a burgeoning space techonology at one time? Having said
that, the ship that Beowulf Shaeffer used to go to Barnard's Star was a No 2
GP hull.

I think only the ultra-rich (like Sigmund Austfaller and Julian Forward)
could afford their own ships at all.
Louis Wu had his own ship in the short story, "There is a Tide" where he met
the Trinocs - I just checked - the story didn't reveal whether this craft
had a GP Hull or not - but with Carlos Wu as his Daddy - I don't think cost
would have been an option - so probably so.
I do remember reading somewhere that after General Products disappeared and
no new GP hulls were being produced, the hulls were continually being
reconstituted with new ship motors and interiors.

Oh there's a lot not considered yet. I'm not sure what other space craft
are available in the Known Space universe. I don't think everyone will be
able to afford GP hulls.
There must be merchants? I remember reading a short story of Larry's where
a new world was being explored. It was something that made me think that
the RWRPG could be used to explore for players - not just RW itself.

One of the things that got me thinking about Known Space in a new way
was the way in which the Man/Kzin War books opened up the milieu.
Not only were the stories refreshing, but they added quite a lot
of Known Space info and history. I'm thinking specifically of the
Jotoki (a species) and their relationship with the Kzinti. Getting
to read about a human-written AI and it's perception of the universe.
The occupation of Wunderland. The list goes on...
Until you typed it, I hadn't considered *anything* other than running
games on the Ringworld itself! Wow! That really opens up the volume
of Known Space, doesn't it?
I'm at the beginning of writing up a set of related scenarios set on
the Ringworld itself, but should anyone like feedback or a fresh pair
of eyes for their M/KW-based games, just let me know!
Thanks for creating this forum, David! I'm looking forward to what it
shows me about Known Space that I hadn't considered myself...

Or even the science. I would like the site to also deal with Known Space in time. I'd like to create a scenario set on a planet during the Man-Kzin wars and see how the players react. Either as Kzin or a humans.
Is there anything that any of you would like to discuss? I know that some of you are working on items that will eventually go up on the Ringworld RPG website.
What part of RW grabs you, that makes you think creatively? Some of you want to create scenarios and campaign material. Others might be more interested in the situations or the rules or creating races.

Why we went to war with the Kzin, however, remains very much an item of interest.

To clarify, feel free to talk about other matters with in reason. The Larry Niven email group seems to talk about everything under the sun. I'd like us to be a little more reserved. Personal opinions about the US space program or why we went to war with Iraq I don't see as really having a place here. Am I being draconian? I realise that we will use this to chat as well to some extent but within reasonable bounds otherwise everyone will switch to Daily Digest and you'll be waiting a day before getting a reply from anyone.

It's in the forum area.
