Thanks for the chat on the phone earlier. I decided to unscrew the side pocket/drinks holder panel beside the helmsman seat. I can confirm that there are no screws or bolts pressing against the inner side of the hull. It is clearly in a spot where there is no stress being caused in close proximity of the cracks. I am now more inclined to leave the two areas alone, than to open up the cracks and repair them. If the cracks happen to get worse over next season then at least we have a recording with you.
My main concern was something pressing against it the whole time, only to open the cracks more. I must admit I was adamant that there was something there. Especially as the opposite side already has had a gelcoat repair or touching up from the factory.
I did'nt expect any less than a professional attitude from you, and thanks to Mark for ringing me back to explain step by step the procedure of gelcoat repairs on a gouge to our boat.
Thanks for your patience, Yes the missing photo is now here, with the cracks position marked with brown tape.
I'm looking forward to the reply of my email sent last week to Cambrian boats, to see what can be done to rectify this before it gets much worse in size. Angharad is on holiday for now. It would be nice to have it repaired this year before the air temp. drops to much. Gelcoat repairs have to be done in mild weather.
You did say in your last email, that you would like to see the spot I'm talking about on the boat.
Well the photo's have arrived apart from one. I have a side shot of the boat about 20ft away with brown tape marking the area on the starboard side. I will have to send that one out tomorrow to you, for now I have two better closer shots I can send you. Don't forget they are the size of an inch in reality.
Neil we have not experienced the problem you have and I am sure Robin can deal with it. As Alistair says, the 232 is a great boat, its a real shame they discontinued making it.
Do you by chance keep the boat on a trailer or is it permanently moored in the water? I ask this because the only problems we have experienced in the past is when customers ratchet the boat down on a trailer too hard.
Subject: Re: [Rinkerboats] Cracks appeared in hull
Hi Alistair
Robin has been fantastic with us in the past, and I can't see why this would cause any problem on this second boat we've had off Robin. We had a mechanical hick up on our old 192 in 2003. Robin came up trumps then.
Its nothing that Robin or the staff at Cambrian Boats could have prevented, its just a factory problem I'm sure.
The area of cracking is starboard or port side, just the same sought of height as the shelf in the cuddy, at the very edge where the shelf begins on the sides. I can see two seperate set of cracks six inches apart on the outer side of the boat. The lower one of the two is just on the first ridge.
I had a reply from Robin last week, to say that Angharad is on holiday for the week, she does Customer Services. While I'm waiting for a responce I was very curious whether this is just an isolated case.
It does look like two fitting screws on the inside are pressing up against the inner side of the hull. In exactly the same spot on the other side it has already had a gelcoat repair.
I'll send you one of the pictures of the cracks, I now have others but waiting for the person who owns the camera to email them.
We purchased our ex-demo Rinker 232 cuddy 05 model, in late April this year, We've just noticed since taking her out for the first time. Whilst polishing, there seems to be two spider web looking cracks,an inch in diameter, six inches vertically apart, the position is under the beading of the blue hull, this is inline to the cuddy shelf on the starboard side. About a foot in front of the centre cleat. It is as if there are two fixing screws or bolts pressing against from the inside. Since noticing the cracks, I can now see a repair has already been done on the port side in exactly the same spot. I should imagine the gel coat repair was done by the factory. Has anyone had any similar experiences with this problem before, and how was the matter dealt with on a five year hull warranty? Any reply would be greatly appreciated on this matter. Many Thanks Neil Koenig.

Alistair We no longer import boats from Rinker because in early 2005 after the sale of the Company by the Rinker family we started to experience excessive build quality problems, a substantial price increase, discontinued production of the best ever selling boat - the 232- and much more. So despite importing Rinker boats for ten years we took the decision that our reputation and best interests would be best served if we ended dealing with Rinker. At the Southampton Show a few weeks ago Robin mentioned that quality had got back to normal so it was probably just a blip which I am sure most manufacturers experience now and again.
However, we as a Company have moved forward by becoming a Four Winns dealer and importing and distributing the Lema range of European built boats, and having sold hundreds of Rinker boats over the years we always have a good stock of second hand boats either on brokerage or trade in's. See www.rinker.uk.com We also have a large stock of Rinker spare parts.
The answer to your question as to why they discontinued the 232 has not been published but talking to one of the guys in the factory, he felt it was a marketing decision. If they made two boats 226 and 246 both very similar to the 232 they would attract a bigger share of the market. It offered a cheaper boat and a bigger boat - if you see what I mean. Robin might know a bit more about the thinking behind it. Certainly at Southampton Robin seemed quite happy with sales this year and without us competing with them I would expect them to be doing very well. As a generalisation however, most boat dealers report a slow market this year.
Neil we have not experienced the problem you have and I am sure Robin can deal with it. As Alistair says, the 232 is a great boat, its a real shame they discontinued making it.

It is a real shame they have discontinued it, why did they do that???
The replacement the 246cc is a nice looking boat too, but do UK people really want to buy a cuddy that big? How are you finding sales?
Cheers
Alistair.

Does anyone out there own a 250 Fiesta Vee?
If so, what engine /leg combination are you using?
what pitch prop are you running?
and what top speed can you achieve?
any help would be appreciated.
My gear drive on the lower unit itself has gotten jammed with the
little bearing rollers of the bearing itself. Now i have gotten down
to it, but can get it off. Theres like a metal seal behind it with
gaskets. This gear is located under the lower unit, and its driectly
above the top, where the screw is for the gear oil. Email me at
ddawg4581@.... TKs!
We have to replace the house battery on our 1992 Fiesta Vee 260 and we
have had poor luck with the batteries that came with the 'new to me'
boat.
We have a really good starting battery but I am confused by the array
of requirements to determine the size (CCA amps at zero degrees and 32
degrees, capacity in minutes at certain amp draw, etc...) so I was
wondering what you folks have on your boat and what sort of usage you
use (lights on for reading in the evening, blower use, instrument use,
radio and/or TV use, etc...). Any and all info as to which size and
brand of house battery you have will be very useful. I know I could
spend all sorts of money and buy a huge battery but do I really need
to?
We have recently purchased a four year old 270 and have not experienced any leaks to date,I suppose it depends on the condition and how its been looked after, we are delighted with our boat and can't wait for the weather to warm up to get some cruising in.

Hi Folks, I am seriously considering buying a 270 boat keep seeing posts about deck / hull leaks. Is this really an issue please? Cheers.
What I can tell you is that my 1995 model weighs 6500lbs. It came out with a 5.7L V8. But mine was re-fitted with the Big Block 454, 7.4MPI engine which gives 310bhp.
One could order the Big Block 454 as an extra from the factory - so it was available for fiesta vee's. Most of the Fiesta Vee 265's over here are fitted with the 5.7L. I suggest that you get this engine. The 4.3 will be too small for your boat.
With the 7.4 engine you will get 5 knots more - but more fuel consumption and more weight - and a crammed engine bay because the 7.4 is huge.
If the price of diesel is not very high - go for diesel.
Hope you find this info useful

I am resident in Australia, though am english ny birth, family
emigrated in 1966 when I was 12. Have been boating/ diving (member
bsac) for many years. Rinker not available here commercially. Our
prices are inflated, still a fledgling market where 24'-26'family
boats are concerned. I am contemplating the purchase of a 240 fiesta
vee, from usa. and shipping it. Basically I can sell my current 20'
Caribbean (13 years old) for the A$ price of a US boat. Are there any
other members (other than Jesmond, I emailed him seperately) who have
taken this step, any pitfalls with the boat etc. I seen some on the
web. Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards Peter P.
I have a 1991 Rinker Festiva 230 with a Mercruiser 5.0L engine (230hp). I bought the boat last year with a beat up prop that I can not even read the numbers on. I replaced it with a variable pitch, 4 blade Propulse prop. I would like to hear some thoughts on proper sizing of an aluminum prop. I don't think the adjustable runs true nor is it as efficient. Thanks for your help in advance.
Hi Folks,
I have set up an online raffle, to raise funds for the Royal
hospital for Sick Children Yorkhill, Cardiology fund.
My son was born in October last year, and at 5 days old had to
undergo life saving operation, since then he has had 4 major heart

He is at home with us, and doing very well at the moment, but still
has a long journey ahead of him before he gets better.
To thank all the team of Nurses/Doctors consultants and surgeons who
have saved my sons life on more than one occasion, We wanted to

Has seen detail of the new Rinker Range mention on another group,
thought i'd mention it here for other to read.
Apparantly the new range line up for 2006 is:
192,226,246,246cc,262,262cc,282,282cc,250,270,300,320,342,360,390,410
.
Also the Fiesta Vee range is now renamed Express Cruisers.
I am sorry to see they've dropped the 232!
I hope its the 246cc that is replacing it, as currently the 226 in
only in Bowrider form.
What concerns me is the new 246 is 26'loa which is a flippen big
cuddy, I bet its impressive but is it too big for the UK weekend
boater market??
The new 226 is i believe 23'6", which was the length of the 232, its
a
good size, but looking at the new layout, it doesn't look like they
will ever be able to include a small galley, if they do make a Cuddy
version!!
Anyway, any UK Dealers got more info on the changes for 2006, and
there 'Honest' views on them??
Also will the new 246cc make it too LIBS??
Pics and Video of the new boats can be seen on
http://www.boattest.com
Merry Christmas and a Gid new year to all.
Cheers
Alistair.

The Vetus unit is a good one. The Rinker hull is thick by comparison to other brands, it is a genuine sea boat capable taking very rough sea's. We sell quite a lot of 270 without the radar arch, because many people want the ability to cruise down rivers where they might have low bridges. I doubt you will find anyone to buy the arch.
I think you mentioned not launching your boat until Spring, so be sure to have it properly winterised.

Graham,
Thanks for the advise, we have just instructed our marina to fit a vetus unit, he cut the hole on Friday and was surprised how thick the hull was, thanks again.
We have also removed the radar arch, and have no intentions of refitting it, do you know of anyone who would be interested in it.

There is no problem fitting a bow thruster to a Rinker 270, the last one we had done cost the owner Pounds 3300 incl.VAT.
Hi We have just purchased a Rinker Fiesta Vee 270, it's a great idea to be able to have contact with other users, we also have had some useful info on our boat and advice from Trevor at Rinker Direct. Our boat is to be used on the Great Ouse, one question I have is:- has anybody had experience of fitting a bow thruster on a 270, if so does the boat sit in the water low enough to enable the thruster fitted in the front locker, bearing in mind it has to sit 4" below the waterline. We have not had the boat in the water yet and am not sure how low she sits,& we will not bother until next season.
Looking foward to some great boating

If anybody is interested, I have setup some a new RInker Owners Group site, complete with forums. it can be found at http://www.rinkerboatowners.com
Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think. I've been looking all over the web for an active Rinker discussion group since we purchased our new 320 several weeks ago and couldn't find any, so decided I'd try and start one.
