Hi all -
How about ...
Thyrsis Singers / Choir ?!?!
see history below and if you google there are no other groups with this name which may help ?!?!
Not my knowledge but I liked the history behind the word and the association with harmonious architecture?
It is known as the "city of dreaming spires" (see Thyrsis <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyrsis> ), a term coined by Matthew Arnold <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Arnold> in reference to the harmonious architecture <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architecture> of the university buildings <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building> .
The character, Thyrsis, was a shepherd in Virgil <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgil> 's Seventh Eclogue, who lost a singing match against Corydon <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corydon_%28character%29> . The implication that Clough was a loser is hardly fair, given that he is thought by many to have been one of the greatest Nineteenth Century poets
I will be late on Sat and have my girls with me

Subject: [offcc] We need a name!
Hello everyone
I'm getting desperate now - we really need a name for the choir!!
Steve and I had a brainstorm this afternoon (we took 'Oxford' as a
starting point), here are the best we came up with:
Rising Voices
Rising Folk
Tamesis (old name for River Thames)
Hedena (old name for Headington)
... for either of these add 'Community Singers' / Choir / whatever
Shotover Singers
Any other suggestions? Preferences?
Please please reply to this message or else we're going to end up in
the programme as 'Oxford Folk Festival Community Choir' which just
sounds a bit dull..!
See you all next Saturday
