Mining Memorial - Savile Colliery
The Opening and Dedication of the Memorial will take place on
Saturday 24th June at 11.0am. The proceedings will commence at
10.40am when the Yorkshire Imperial Brass Band strike up and play as
people assemble at the junction of Main Street and Station Road (old
pit gates).
At 11.0am After thanking all the people involved in the project,
Bill Thackray will introduce Colin Burgon MP.
At 11.05am Mr Colin Burgon will officially accept the Memorial on
behalf of the village and former miners with an opening speech, and
the NUM banner which will be covering the sculpture will then be
moved aside.
11.15am A short prayer of dedication will be offered by the The Rev.
Mrs Ruth Crompton and Rev. Fr Michael Bootes. After which the band
will continue while the crowd disperses for refreshments which will
be available in the Ex Servicemens Club.
11.30am A display of photographs of the pit including many of the
workmen will be presented by the Methley Archive Group in the village
centre.
The event is being widely advertised and people travelling by car are
asked to arrive early to ensure ease of parking. It is aimed at
former miners and their wives also children of former miners and all
residents of this village.

Last parked in the Methley cricket field car park at 8.10pm Saturday
3rd December till I went to collect it at 10.00pm and found only a
small pile of glass from where the rear off side door window was
parked when I left it.

our Open Days,
Friday June 18th from 10am until 8pm and Saturday 19th June from
10am until 12noon at the Community Centre in Main Street.
All Methley life will be there - on screen. on computer, in
photographs and in the written and spoken word.
Bring any old photo if you wish and see it put on the computer, or
enter it yourself.
Look up your Methley ancestors in the 1881 census.
Find out how many bottles of wine were drunk after the Methley
funeral of a relative.
Have a go at the Methley quiz; 20 easy questions. Buy some raffle
tickets. (No prize will be the same as any given in Methley Cricket
Club's Grand Christmas Cheer, 1898 !)
Our prizes have been generously donated by Michael & Josie from The
Post Office, David & Clayton from "Bits & Pieces", Mr Amjid Ali from
The Mini Mart and Steve & Diane from The New Bay Horse. One of these
will be the quiz prize.

Congratulations in you're placing in the National Brass Band
Championships we all recon you should be proud coming 4th out of 15
bands beating both Black Dyke and Grimethorpe. A Very good day.
And yes you was the only the second member here when you joined but
Dick piped you to the post by 7 minutes in posting his Intro :-).
Sorry for the delay in replying to your Intro but eventually their
will be enough members so that their will always be some one to send
a Welcome reply to a new Intro or a reply to a question that has
being listed that day.
Please use the Calendar link to enter new up and coming Band events
so that they are posted to all members on the day and with reminders
leading up to the day.
You must have some Band photos to enter on the Photos Link from your
hard drive.
Please use all the links in the left of the group home page to get
the most out of this group.
And most of all please use the Invite link on the left of this page
and enter up to 50 email addresses one under the other to drum up new
members to join our new group, with out members we are sending
messages to ourselves :-).

Looks like I'm only the second member here.
I'm webmaster of the Rothwell Temperance Band website and I also play
Percussion with the band.
Yesterday, the band played at St Georges Hall in Bradford for the
Yorkshire region of the National Brass Band Championships. We played in
the championship section, and came 4th out of 15 bands beating both
Black Dyke and Grimethorpe. A good day for us!

When you have successfully joined and made a full ID or Profile so
other Members can readily see who they are replying to please enter
your first email as a Introduction about your self and the part you
play in Rothwell whether its living here, working here or visiting
here just to give other Rothwell people a start to reply and get like
minded topics on the go.
Then you can upload photos in to your own Photo Album or add events
on the Calendar or make a Chat time on the Chat Link where only Group
members can use to Type to each other or if you have a Mic and
Speakers then use them to talk to each other maybe on Friday nights
at 9.00pm onward or any other night please let me know which night is
best for you.
You can use all of the tools on the left please have a go and let me
know if any do not work.
