Jack McCall (Matthew Modine) is a chimpanzee trainer who teaches
everything. He is one of those super secret agent types who is
brought in to make trainees experts in the field. He recently came
to a close on his weirdest mission ever; training a monkey named
Clemens. Thanks to McCall, he's become an expert at kung fu.
After receiving his check, he's ready to leave and get on with his
life. But when syringes are pulled out in order to dope up Clemens,
he realizes that Clemens is not safe under the care of the CIA. He
breaks Clemens out.
This eventually leads them to meet the boy genius, Michael Dean
(Seth Adkins) and them team up to take down an animal testing lab.
In exchange the scientist gives the boy some pointers on the girl of
his dreams. While Clemens gets himself into all kinds of monkey
hijinks, McCall tries it on with the kid's mom, and let's not
forget that the evil CIA director wants his monkey back.
Funky Monkey is an enjoyable effort that works best when it allows
itself to go completely tongue-in-cheek. The football finale is a
great example. Cheesy jokes coming together make this worth a watch.
Gilbert Gottfried shows up for a short cameo in the movie.
Run, don't walk to your nearest video store and get this film! Wow!
This ape is super-talented! Add to this stellar performances from
the cast including Seth - what can you say - box office magic! 10
stars!
