Anthropomorphism - ‘the representation of objects (especially a god) as having human form or traits’
Seems it can also be a representational process, that is, ‘any basic cognitive process in which some entity comes to stand for or represent something else’. (Quotes taken from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Anthropomorphising ).
For me, two academic influences:-
1. Michoel Drazin’s book ‘Their Hollow Inheritance’, available in full at http://www.drazin.com/
2. Peter Kirby’s ‘Historical Jesus Theories’, available at http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/theories.html
In addition, and secondary the above, the current siding of the Anglican Church with the Catholic Church and, with that, thus a collusion, giving approval, ipsofacto, to the current policies of the latter. The Catholic Church’s policies including, but not limited to, a) the disapproval of the use of contraceptives (as a public health measure, the use of contraceptives, particularly the use of condoms, could dramatically reduce the incidence, in women and children, of AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases) and, b) the disapproval of being gay/ lesbian, and of same sexed relationships. Do I read any refutation, or distancing, by the local Anglican Church, of such Catholic Church’s policies? Can’t say that I do.
Yes, it would be nice to have a discussion.
And, yes, I am happy for Rachel to work on the website. If she wants, she is welcome to call me on one of the below numbers.
Kind wishes,
Kaete

It was lovely to see you.
We should talk about God/not God.
Often when people say those things they mean they have outgrown anthropomorphising God and outgrown God as object of discussion (as opposed to subject).
'I am who I am' is God's response to all that.
A bit complex but a good basis for discussion if you have the energy some time.
Rachel Swan (office helper) is itching to work on the website. Are you OK with that?
Cheers
Stephen

Subject: [StAugustinesParish] Back to Church Sunday
Hi Stephen, Hi all,
It was good to be at the ‘Back to Church Sunday,’ yesterday, and to see, and be with some former friends. One of these, being Mary Bullock, who I hadn’t seen for several years, but who gave me a hug, and asked me, and as I did do, to sit next to her.
The problem, with my, and my mother’s, continuing involvement, as active St A’s parishioners is, as we see it, that neither of us no longer, a) believe in the tenet that there is a god, or gods, and, b) no longer believe that worshiping such a non-existant God, or gods is, time wise, all that worthwhile. Both of us miss, very majorly I hasten to add, being with all those that we used to see, and be with, over the years, we attended the services at St A. We very much miss these people, most dearly, and we wish them our love..
Kind wishes,,
Kaete
