Attached is a letter that I hope will be of interest to you.

Would you like to use this as an opportunity to "feel the water" in Colchester? We are just on the outskirts of Colchester.

I look forward to hearing from you

Yours

Sheila Charrington

We are planning to hold a Dance Festival at Layer Marney Tower on Bank Holiday Sunday 24th May 2009.

I am writing to ask if your group would like to be involved. We have not done this before and so what I am suggesting at the moment is very much a draft outline which I would expect to refine with those who take part.

Layer Marney Tower is a Tudor Gatehouse built around 1520 that is open to the Public. If you go onto our website www.layermarneytower.co.uk you will get an idea of Layer Marney Tower and the types of space it has suitable for dancing. Depending on the type of dancing and the weather, the spaces we have are outside on the grass, indoor in the Long Gallery (70’ x 20’ with a polished wooden floor) and inside in a large concrete floored mediaeval barn.

I am writing to several different Dance Groups so we may be able to display a range of dance. What I think would be good is for a each group to have an hour during which they can show off their skills, and if they wish to encouraging people to join in. I don’t expect you to be able to dance for an hour solidly but that would be the time set aside for you to fill with displays etc.

We have regularly been open to the Public on a Bank Holiday Sunday from 11am – 5pm. We expect anything between 300- 700 people throughout the day. I have already offered people who come in classic cars free entry on 24th May. If the weather is good they come in their droves! They tend to stay for much of the day and would very much enjoy whatever you put on.

What would you gain from coming here? I am afraid we can’t pay you but you are welcome to promote yourselves and recruit for your classes. There will be space for you to put up a stand about your group. We will offer all the dancers a £3.00 voucher for refreshments as well as free entry. Finally it is a lovely place to visit.

What do I gain from it? Most importantly, your great dancing and hopefully a more diverse group of people coming to the Tower. We want to increase the number of visitors and do it in a fun way. We think this would be a good day!

I do hope you will be interested and look forward to hearing from you. My e-mail address is sheila@... or telephone on 01206 330784

Yours

Sheila Charrington
