Just a reminder that the last of the current set of classes at "The

Kate is asking for takers for the fortnightly continuation classes (3
sessions from 22nd April).

The next Practica is the group outing to Norwich on Monday 12th 0730pm
at the Garage. £3 per person. Obviously a bit of a commitment for a
Monday evening but worth it once you get there.

Closer to home "The Riverside Community Centre" is booked for Sunday

Hi All

I have had a few queries about "The Bull" Practica. – Yes this is
still on !!!
There is a map on the site under "Files" if you need to find it or
call Cliff. (Basically find the Woodbridge Market Square)

I have been having a drawn out conversation with the Wolsey Theatre
to see if we can get access to the "Wolsey Studio Theatre" which we
have been told was a dance space in its past incarnation.

The idea is that we get an intro class run in close proximity to "The
Tango Siempre" show 1st April at the Wolsey. The benefit to the group
is that we get some publicity and a lift for the classes in May.

So if any one has a contact at the Wolsey we can talk to that would
be helpful. It has been difficult being taken seriously as the group
is not yet a looming presence in the Suffolk Arts Scene.

See you in Woodbridge

On the 14th Feb we're holding a Valentine's Milonga at the Park Hotel
in Diss. The hotel has a decent floor, a good bar and plenty of
parking. It's on the corner of Stanley Rd and Denmark St. (Try Google
maps: http://maps.google.com/) In addition to the regulars in Diss
we'll be welcoming visitors from the Halesworth group, members of the
newly formed Suffolk Tango, and dancers from Bylaugh, Norwich and
further afield. Everyone welcome.

The big news for the month is that following repeated requests we're
holding a six week Intermediate/Improvers Course in Norwich. (23rd Feb
- 30th March). The course will focus on working in cross system and
using the closed side of the embrace. Full details on the website.
Each 90 minute class will be self contained but taken together they
form a progressive course whose aim is to make dancing in cross system
as natural as dancing in parallel. You can come on a drop in basis or
take advantage of a discount if you book all six. So leaders and
followers, if you're up for some intensive tango we look forward to
seeing you at St Thomas's Hall on Earlham Rd (near The Mitre pub).
Dancing till 10.45.

In April we will be holding the first progressive BEGINNERS COURSE in
Norwich at the same venue. (20th April - 25th May). The course will
last for six weeks. Each class will be 2 hours long. If previous
experience is anything to go by the course is likely to be
oversubscribed so booking is a must. More details of this and other
courses together with booking forms can be found on the website
www.tangoabrazo.com

We've also added a new video for the month which offers an interesting
approach to practising your tango. Kate has posted some new photos on
this site (see panel on the left).

Our courses in Diss and Halesworth continue and we can still be found
at The Garage on Monday evenings for the Practica.

Hope to see you there.

Hi All

Kate says we are still short of our 8 Couples to make the course at
Halesworth a sure thing. So if you haven't got round to it please
send her a mail. Obviously there may be a rush post Christmas but we
don't want to leave things to chance.

The new venue in Norwich is delightful and looks like it will become
a regular monthly event.

It is a Café bar and Gallery which has cheekily called itself
"NEWMUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART" [(NEWMU), King St, Norwich, NR1 1PW]

So if you are in Norwich take look you will probably want to put the
postcode into
www.streetmap.co.uk if you don't know Norwich well as there is a bit
of building activity & scaffolding obscuring the street sign off of
King Street at the barrier (no through road) into Mountergate Street.
The Entrance is in Mountergate Street.

It is a good example of the type of venue we would be looking for in
Suffolk for our own Milonga later on. Bar & café facilities, wooden
floor, not to big or small, nice atmosphere, interesting photographs
& art . So if anyone knows of the equivalent in Suffolk it would be
good to know about it as a possibility. It surprisingly how hard it
is to get all boxes ticked for a tango venue.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hi All

Tassie and I are planning on going to this. So hope to see some of
you there. If we didn't chat or dance at Diss please don't be shy.
Come up and say your in the group. At some point Cliff and Rosemary
Hoppit are going to book a back room at "The Bull" (on The market
Square) in Woodbridge for a practica (probably new year).

Discussions so far are around the idea of a regular practica twice a
month. If anyone has other idea's or a venue please put them forward.

Suffolk is to too big to expect one practica or venue to cover the
county.

Looking through the membership Cliff has added a lot of people since
Diss, but to get the full utility out of the site you need to have a
Yahoo Id.

This would be an advantage as you can update your profile. If we
knew where everyone was from, we could work out where the practical
centre of the group was and plan a few events etc.

If you would like help with setting up a Yahoo ID please drop Cliff
or me a quick mail and we can give instructions or set it up for you.

Dear Suffolk Tangueros,

Kate needs a minimum of eight couples (12 is optimum) to make next

So before you are all overwhelmed by Christmas and other festive
activities could you (one or more of):
-Badger some friends to sign up
-Put up a poster in that key location you know is frequented by
closet tango aspirants.

Hope to see you all at "The Cut" in January

Sunday Tea Dance/Milonga at NEWMUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART cafe/bar
(NEWMU), King St, Norwich, NR1 1PW

We are trying out a new venue for social dancing in Norwich. You are
invited to join us on Sunday 17th December for late afternoon/early
evening tango from 4pm to 8pm.

The NEWMUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART cafe/bar is a delightful and
little known venue close to the city centre of Norwich. Why not take
advantage of the excellent shopping facilities in Norwich - do some
Christmas shopping then come and enjoy tango dancing afterwards?
Parking for NEWMU is available in Mountergate, Rouen Road (on-road
and car park) as well as the Castle Mall. This event will be FREE.
Drinks/snacks may be purchased in the venue itself. Music will be
traditional with a selection of 'specials' added in. We hope you can
come along and give feedback as to whether this venue/event could
have a regular slot in the Norwich tango calendar.

Hope to see you there
Rachel

MILONGA ONE
A Milonga for New Dancers

In the early part of your tango career attending a milonga - a salon where tango is danced - can be an intimidating experience.  Our Milonga One is designed as a gentle introduction.  The evening will begin with a short lesson from Kate and Tony on the etiquette of the milonga with tips on how to navigate and a quick look at the do's and don't's of the salon floor. Dancing will continue till 10.45.   This is a great opportunity to come and try out some of your new skills on the dancefloor and a chance to meet other dancers taking their first steps in tango.  The Bistro has ample parking, a good dancefloor, a comfortable sitting area and a bar serving beer, wine, coffee and snacks. What more could you ask for?

Venue: The Bistrot, Hopper Way, Diss.

Date Wednesday 13th December 2006.  8.00 to 10.45pm

Cost £5.00

Hi All

This is a conversation I had shortly before Cliff, Rosemary, Tassie
and I started the group. Kate and Tony are planning a Sunday workshop
each month in the New Year if they can get a commitment from "The
Cut". We hope it will all work out.

The woman at The Cut has now come back and said one of the dates
won't do, so we're having to rethink the three possibilities
otherwise some would be too close together. We'll keep you posted.

Hi Kevin
I have had the same problem with getting any response from the Cut as
before. After emails and calls I tracked Aafke down and have given
her the following dates for next year. Sunday 7th Jan, 4th Feb and
4th March? Was originally suggesting the 10 th Dec but too late now
to do that! So about to confirm dates in New Year with Aafke. And we
would like to encourage people to do the 3 sessions so we can build
on input and if you are running practica and bringing folk to Norwich
that could work really well. Let me know if you think this could
work, I expect Tony will add comments but thats the bare bones for
now.

Kate

We hope this event might be of interest to the members of Suffolk
Tango. For those of you who already dance it might be a good point of
contact for new dancers in easy reach of events in Suffolk

Hope to see you there,

Tony

Congratulations, Kevin. Suffolk's days as a tango desert look
numbered. Best of luck with the new group.
