Some food for thought from a Times article:

“It takes two. It’s been called “vertical sex”. It’s enough to make a successful London publisher drop her career and head to the other side of the world, and now it’s being used as relationship therapy for couples. On the eve of a new series of Strictly Come Dancing, the tango is winning scientifically backed repute for boosting vigour, busting stress and getting lovers back in love. Tango may have its roots in the brothels of Argentina, but a wave of respectable research is highlighting its ability to heal relationships and create a heady glow of wellbeing. A study published last month, by Cynthia Quiroga Murcia, a psychologist at Goethe University in Frankfurt, reveals how the dance boosts men and women’s sex hormones and emotions.

Her team tested dancers’ saliva before and after hitting the floor together, to monitor levels of testosterone and the stress hormone cortisol. The dancers also filled in mood questionnaires. Tango’s choreography appears to release stress and send testosterone racing, in women as well as men, reported the journal Music and Medicine. The study participants (most of whom danced with their usual partner) were left feeling calmer, sexier and more closely bonded. Previous studies have shown that other dances don’t have this effect.”

Hi everyone

If anyone is thinking they might be interested in buying a new pair of tango shoes from Attitude Dancewear this Sunday at the Norwich Tango tea dance, St Giles House Hotel, Norwich - Ruth and Amy have asked me to let you know that cash or cheque would be better as there probably won't be a phone line for them to plug in the chip and pin machine and manual card transactions are less convenient. There is a cash machine very close to the hotel, just at the bottom of St Giles Street at Tesco Metro.

If you are looking for any styles/sizes/colours in particular then please give Amy or Ruth a call on 01223 322227 and ask them to bring something suitable.

Hope to see you there
Rachel

Hi everyone,

A little bit of news from Bury St Edmunds. A small group of us are determined to
keep something regular going in Bury St Edmunds and so we have set up a practica
for alternate Mondays. The timing wasn't ideal for us but we have an option to
use a brilliant new venue near the centre of Bury - this is the Hunter Club and
is a revamped and renovated British Legion. There is a dancefloor which can
comfortably house forty dancers and we have the option of using a bar if numbers
allow.
Our start date is the 19th October and from then every other Monday, so 2nd,
16th and 30th November and so on. Times are from 7.30 to 9.30 and all levels of
experience are invited and welcome.
The Hunter Club is at the lower end of St Andrews Street South and the postcode
is IP33 1QF. There are some parking spaces with the club but also plenty of
single line spaces along the road.
If anyone wants more info please ring Mick or Esme on 01449 736367.

MORE GUEST TEACHERS this autumn/winter...

We are pleased to announce that Mabel Rivero (Argentina/Berlin) will be teaching
for us on Friday 4th December - some of you will know Mabel from the Tango
Mangos in Devon....

Intention, encounter, illusion… playing a game with your partner

The Tango is a living dance, offering a myriad of stylistic possibilities and
expressions.

The music that you hear during a milonga is very varied, and the spatial
conditions for dancing change continually. The dance floor is like a breathing
organism, full of harmony and with a beauty of its own.

In the world of Tango, there are different kinds of embrace, different sources
of movement and different ways of changing the distance between the two dancing
bodies. This distance and the spatial options are closely connected to our
choreographic elements and our improvisation.
